I was watching Gumball and during the credits a Steven Universe short was played. It was Steven doing an unboxing video. Was it this something new or something I had missed because I can't find anything about it online.

you’ve probably already seen by now but that’s a brand new short! I guess CN is deciding to release the shorts between shows instead of directly online, I’d guess that’s why they removed “How are Gems made?” and had it air after an episode, too

For people in the US who have a cable subscription but won't be near a TV. The Cartoon Network app let's you stream shows as they air. It's been very useful to me in the past.

My current theory is that the gems are AIs and all their "magic" falls squarely in the "sufficiently advanced technology" category. Peridot certainly seems the most computer like and even Garnet' future vision is very similar to the Machine from POI

If LoK taught us anything it was about the power and importance of compassion. As Korra showed us a part of compassion is empathy. You can't empathize with someone if you have no idea where they're coming from. There is so much to dislike about Azula but there is, underneath it all, a person there. Every person wants, on some level, to be understood. In return for this understanding we should be willing to understand others in return. I may not like her but even Azula deserves the effort.

Exactly. That’s why I began digging into Azula in the first place, when others would so quickly write her off. But I think in my effort to do so I slightly lost perspective, getting mired in the details of turtleducks and the treatment of prisoners--not that those aren’t points worth looking into...of course they are. Yet for me “literary”  analyses are the most affecting and productive when they examine at overall form, theme, and characterizations.

I love the essay I received because it was grounding: Azula is someone who did horrible things that shouldn’t be excused or rationalized, yet at the same time, she’s a tragic figure. The essay expertly highlighted the nuances of her arc without offering redemption or condemnation of the person. That’s darn powerful. I thought that submission was pretty perfect, plus it made me tearbend to boot: a sight not often seen.

There’s plenty more I may still do with Azula (contrasting her to Kuvira, for instance), but in terms of finding lenses, I think that essay got us there.
