There are many ways to achieve the principle of a posthumous duet, we have elucidated many of them in here, yet some of them aren’t seen like this despite being like that. I can cheekily claim I was speaking of sampled music in away thanks to the fact almost all of these musicians who appeared in the posthumous collaborations were taken from their original contexts. Thus, Etienne De Crecy sampling Esther Phillips could also be seen as a posthumous duet. The whole thing also felt like Etienne flexing his influence – both Air and Daft Punk could be seen as his students in a way – to show he got there first. Then again, the album the tune on the link appeared in was probably a result of him reaching the success he wished for.

The certain subset of electronica I discuss does not get limited territorially, yet I would dare to suggest France might be one of the most important hubs. For instance, Étienne de Crécy whom we met before as one of the collaborators of, ha, Air belongs to the lengthy list of names that put the electronic music of the country on the world map. Of course, his works sound similar to many of his compatriots, yet we shouldn't take that against him. Sure, he, Air and Daft Punk probably have the same bank of samples, though each of them positions them in their own way. Check the tune on the link and notice how Étienne de Crécy makes the entire piece both incredibly relaxed and expressively rigid. Hm, don't these two phrases describe the French electronic music from the 90's on?

6. SCRATCHED –TEMPOVISION

The positive side of the success of the French Touch is that I get to go to NYC and record vocals with Michael Clip Payne and Belita Woods! For the first time, my tracks became songs. I keep precious memories of these sessions.

5. 3 DAYS WEEK-END – TEMPOVISION

I’m having a hard time making Tempovision for two main reasons:

— 1st, I’ve bought myself a digital mixing desk at a time when the technology isn’t yet up to scratch. Mixing is time-consuming and I can still hear the album’s lack of spontaneity today.

— 2nd, after the success of Superdiscount, I feel like people are waiting to see if I’ve got it wrong! I put a lot of pressure to myself ! But I’m wrong and it’s both a relief and a disappointment to find that... no one is waiting to see!

4. AM I WRONG – TEMPOVISION

Exit hack & DIY! We’ve been catapulted into the music industry and they don’t stand for any nonsense. House tracks are making it into the Top 50! Air and Daft Punk are real com- mercial hits. Millions of albums are being sold! The pressure’s mounting. It’s no longer a matter of making music for a few fanatics scattered around the world! People are making marketing plans and requesting radio singles and videos (my brother Geoffroy won a Victoire de la Musique for Best Video with Am I Wrong).
