Adrianne Lenker is the lead singer of Big Thief.  “abysskiss” is her second solo effort, and I think, her best.  It evokes the hushed work of Vashti Bunyan, Squirrel Flower, Tenci and Tiny Ruins.  I posted about Josephine Foster’s “No Harm Done” at the beginning of December, and Lenker’s work creates a similar mood.

Saddle Creek released “abysskiss” back in 2018.  Lenker recently released her 3rd solo effort “songs” on her own (yet licensed through 4AD).

Adrianne Lenker is based in New York City.

truly one of my favorite albums of the year, i specifically would recommend it to anyone that loves big thief!! i think both jess & adrianne have a quality to them that seems infused with nature. it contains so much and their songs build worlds that feel like they include the scurrying of animals, the movement of water, the shuffling through fields. i love it.
