I'm thinking about how Kita, who was raised to appreciate the little things, to pay attention to detail and to express gratitude even for the smallest things, to benerate what brings joy and comfort and safety into his life. Gratitude is second nature to him, and I'm thinking about the way all that translates into the moments of intimacy you share with each other.

Once you're all stripped bare in front of him for the first time, giving yourself to him with no restriction and his gaze is weighing upon you with the force of a steady wave, he takes such a long time dancing over your skin with the tip of his fingers, making the hairs on your body stand up, bringing your sensitivity to the surface. He seems to be hesitating for a moment before placing the palm of his hands fully on you.

He's conflicted, you asume, you see it in the way his brows are slightly furrowed, but you give him a second to himself. And the thing is that there's something contradicting in what he has been taught: yes he should be grateful but he should refrain from being greedy. But now, while you're standing in front of him, giving yourself to him, he's feeling selfish, and he wants all of it and more, he wants you in every possible way.

"You can touch me, Shin", you place you hand over his to help him land his palm fully on your warm body. Finish what he started. You creep you other hand up his neck and cup his cheek, beckoning him gently to look up at you "I want you to, please".

His eyes are almost glossy, glistening with a mix of tenderness and desire. Upon further contemplation, you seem to comprehend what's going on in his mind. It's not that he's reluctant to go further, he's admiring and taking in everything about this moment, even now, he's silent looking at you with such yearning that's enough to make you eyes prickle a little with the hint of tears.

"Let me see you for a little longer, love". And how could you tell him no, when he says something like that, turning his face to brush the pulse of you wrist with his lips. "We've got all night". He's decided that he'll be selfish and thank the gods for the divine gift that you are appropriately.

CARING SENTENCE STARTERS | ACCEPTING !

❝ You’re still up, Suzaku? ❞ His expression must betray him, he always was a poor liar. There are vestiges of pain on his face. The malevolence in this area is taking its toll; but he thinks of the Seraphim like Suzaku who have to bear it every day, and wonders if its selfish of him to complain, when they have this burden naturally at birth. 

Still, he wipes the trickle of sweat that thankfully, had receded hidden into his caramel fringe, hoping the more jaded green eyes on his own would not judge him too harshly. The Fire Seraphim was a bit of an enigma, much like a ruin, full of sad and heavy things … he hardly wanted as the Shepherd to be someone to add to such strife in his soul.

Could he not purify sadness as well? It was such a naive ideal even Sorey internally snorted; naive he may be to the wide, beautiful world in all its hateful glories and tender triumphs … it was still his dream to protect it. To unite it with all beings below and above. To usher in a dawn that would follow after this ‘Age of Chaos.’  He turns to face him; feather ornaments ruffling slightly against the nape of his collared neck before he contemplates his words.

He appreciates it, he really does. His loyalty, his kindness, and the bond they share. He has no desire to see someone he’s come to cherish fall under any corruption or malice, much less fall into his own heart’s pain. That wasn’t the act of the messiah the people cried out for, each sob and heartfelt thanks another stone building a burdening mountain on his back. A mountain called the world. 

Still, Sorey smiles, warm, impossibly kind, eyes achingly tender.

❝ …. It’s great that you want to help me so much. I really rely on you, y’know? But…this doesn’t work one way, Suzaku. I’m going to protect you too. Not because I’m a title or a duty or a role, or anything like that. 

When you and I entered into those rituals and rites, I promised myself I’d do my share too. When I uncovered your true name, I thought, ‘has anyone ever looked after Suzaku’? And I came to the decision that I guess you’re gonna have to be stuck with me protecting you back. When people care about each other, that’s what they do, isn’t it?

I don’t have to know about everything to know  that. Gramps taught me that a long time ago. Sorry, but if you want to argue about it, consider it ‘Shepherd rights’ although… ❞ He cringes.  

 ❝ I’d kind of hate to invoke that kind of power. Remember you weren’t the only one that made a promise to protect the other person that day. You’re amazing, Suzaku. I don’t know your story, but if you’re ready, maybe someday we can talk about it. If not, that’s okay too, but I’ll always be here for you. That’s part of caring about someone. Who says I have to know the whole world to know that?

Just come as you are. I’ll be here watching your back as you’ll watch mine. Because we’re a team. So don’t sweat it about being the only one to protect me. I know I’m inexperienced and young but … I don’t need to be hundreds of years old to protect someone that’s precious, now do I? ❞ 

He gently reaches to squeeze his arm in a warm, gentle gesture that lingers like the tender glow of the sun. Sorey’s grin turns almost impossibly bright; all white teeth and crinkling peridot green eyes, a purity that couldn’t be faked, a sincerity that could not be sold. Perhaps…

❝ Now c’mon. All this talk is making me hungry!❞

Perhaps one day the Shepherd would earn his trust – no — Sorey, would earn his trust….

❝ You coming? ❞
