My dearest Rosemary,

         You know I’m not good at words. They were never my strength, as I have always believed actions spoke louder. But if there is one thing I’m truly bad at — it’s saying goodbye. I always tried to avoid such situations; but this time, it’s impossible. This time leaving without a word would be unfair to you.

         I guess by what I’ve told you, you already know what kind of letter it is. We will never see each other again, for the very simple reason — I was dying. It sounds like the beginning of letters that characters in really bad romances used to write, right? Unfortunately that is what is happening. Our beautiful fairy tale has ended and there is no coming back.

         I will not speak of our love and what was between us — you know that, you know our story as well as I do. Instead, I will talk of something important, something I need you to know. I need you to be strong, for my sake. I love you and the thought of you being in pain after my death makes my heart ache much more than physical pain of my body giving up. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I left you on this world without a way to soothe your pain.

         I don’t wish to leave you, my love. You know that I don’t. I wanted to live my eternity with you by my side. I wanted to be able to make you happy, to make your life a paradise on earth. It pains me that now I have no chance to do that, that I have no chance to take care of you, to protect you. I wanted to. I have o idea of where I will happen to be after my death. But if there is even a small chance that I will be able to be close to you, as a ghost, I will look after you, my dear. My friend, my wife — my love.

         I love you, and I always will. I want to remember you smiling. Promise me you will be forever smiling.
