As an adult artist, nature and animals still captivate my interests. “Fish Tale,” is a clever trick-of-the-eye combining surrealism with trompe l'oeil. In this painting, I suggest that an instructive, coffee-stained card is taped to a weathered board. In truth, I painted every last stain, crease and tape strip. My intention was to cleverly teach others how to identify Smallmouth Bass and stir the viewer’s imagination when the fish's tail seemingly comes to life and begins to flip up from the artwork. The zebra swallowtail has black and white stripes running the length of its body with red and blue spots on the lower back. 🌸Tennessee Coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis) is one of two Tennessee State wildflowers, designated an official state wildflower in 2012 and found only in the limestone and cedar glades of Middle Tennessee. A remarkable product of #nature, Tennessee Limestone has a rough, weathered appearance and is gray with very little accents of cream and brown throughout. It is found just about everywhere in Tennessee, and was designated an official state rock in 1979. Tennessee marble, as the metamorphic version of limestone is known, is widely used in public and private buildings. This photo shows the painting detail I'm working on. 🎨 Some of my followers have been asking about my unique subjects seen in my recent paintings... For the past 2-1/2 years I've been learning about, studying, referencing, and photographing our Tennessee state symbols to create my paintings for an upcoming exhibition that opens at the Parthenon on September 15, 2017. 🎨#WIP #OnMyEasel #PaintinginProgress for my museum tour – I added shadows and highlights on the paper and tape, I might be finished. I'll take it for tthe professional scan this week. 🔹Did you know: Milk was designated as the official state beverage in 2009. An essential component to building strong muscle and bones in children, as well as mending injured muscle and bones in adults, milk also helps in building strong and healthy teeth, hair, skin and nails. Tennessee’s dairy industry produced nearly 742 million pounds of milk in 2016 (that's equal to over 86 million gallons), with cash receipts for milk and milk products totaling nearly $133 million. 🔹Tennessee is home to approximately 45,000 milk cows who live on 317 dairy farms. A typical Tennessee dairy farm has a herd of about 129 milking cows. Each dairy cow in Tennessee provides an average of 1,917 gallons of milk per year... that's an average of 6.3 gallons of milk per day (enough to make 5.4 pounds of cheese or two. 6 pounds of butter each day.) 🔹Tennessee has six commercial milk processing plants located in Nashville (2), Murfreesboro, Memphis, Powell, and Athens. 🎨 RE: unique subjects seen in my recent paintings...
