Enveloped by the Night

So much had happened in this city and there wasn’t a day that went by that he wouldn’t recall all that had been before. To think that he had originally come all the way here from Leronde just to study to be a doctor, only for such a small action to end up changing his life forever. It was something Jude would never take back, and never regret.
Though upon looking out at the waters from behind one of the railings outside the Laforte building, his thoughts quickly drifted off to a certain spirit. One that was hard not to miss. Even when he engrossed himself in his work, focused on his mission… He could never forget about her, nor did he want to. While he could never be certain, he was sure that she too felt the same way in regards to that… But what could they do?
Milla was watching over him, biding the time he needed to let this project save the world. Jude would keep that promise to her, one they made together-- to protect both humans and spirits. Gaius would never let him off if he failed after all. Jude couldn’t help but smile at those thoughts. Coming back here always put his mind back into perspective. Sometimes he was overcome with worry, the pressure of it all… to the point that he temporarily would lose sight of his objective, but he always had the will to put himself back on the right rails once again.
“Rail’s huh…” it was spoken quietly to himself, but it was rather impressive that somewhere along the line of sorting out his thoughts… it went right back to trains. Speaking of trains… Weren’t they testing out a new model soon? He’d have to definitely look into that! Nodding to himself at his own inner monologue. Unless he could find someone to drag along with him, Jude might have to take that venture himself… shame.
Soon enough, he settled for just staring out at the water. Jude was aware he would need to head back eventually, but this was as close to a moments peace as he was going to get. Fennmont, if advertised, was probably one of the most peaceful and atmospheric cities in the whole world. Perhaps that was why he always came back to it? Though all those attached memories likely helped. The starting place of it all…
But peace was short lived and with a sudden crash the researcher practically jumped and quickly turned to look behind himself. “What was--!?” but nothing. Nobody really came out here save the people that came and went from the facility and he was far enough away from it that the guards clearly didn’t catch sight of what just happened. So what was it that happened? Walking a little further, he peered over the edge of the opposite railing on the other side of the bridge.
The ripples in the water could indicate that there may of been signs of impact… but it was hard to tell. No bubbles... so it couldn’t have been a person. Did part of the bridge just fall off? Jude shuddered at the thought. He’d rather not be caught up in that if he could avoid it.
“...just my imagination then?”
