I don't think it's a matter of choice. River was explained by the angel being weak, I just checked:

RIVER: At least she didn't send me back in time.  DOCTOR: I doubt she's strong enough. 

I don't think they ever say they can CHOOSE not to, but I'm still checking.

yeah ive seen a few things but not enough to ruin anything i dont think, i have spoilers blacklisted anyway so most of it has been hidden for me (and the things i did see didn’t mean much to me/i don’t really remember them)

idk about other people but i've only been tagging stuff from 2x01 as spoilers, so there's still stuff from s1 that is liable to crop up that will only be tagged as 'the walking dead'. just fyi.
