Tensions with Iran: Washington deploys more than 1,500 soldiers in the Middle East
The United States announced Friday the deployment of 1,500 additional troops in the Middle East, citing "persistent threats" against US forces emanating from the "highest level" of the that denounced this "threat" to international peace. "We are going to send a relatively small number of troops, mostly preventative, and some very talented people are going to the Middle East right now," Donald Trump said from the White House. "It will be about 1,500 people," said the US president before flying to Japan. "The increase of the American presence in our region is very dangerous and constitutes a threat to the international peace and security that must be faced," said Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
