Geckos ancestors are thought to have split from other lizards about 200 million years ago when Pangea split into Laurasia and Gondwana. The earliest gecko like fossils I can find information about are vertebrae from the Middle Jurassic of Oxfordshire, England. The vertebrae are nearly 170 million Years Old but their placement as living gecko's relatives isn’t completely certain. Bone is made of collagen and the mineral apatite. Apatite is Calcium Phosphate. Geologically the mineral apatite forms from bones and scales and is also calcium phosphate. I drew the vertebrae with the mineral apatite’s streak. The white on the vertebrae is from the apatite. Thanks for looking/ reading. I hope you enjoy/ enjoyed.
