(Teen!AU) "Ya know it's pocky day," teasing as always, he throws a few boxes at Nnoitra: "Fitting no? Just kidding! Happy Birthday! Wanted to make it more gay but you'd kick me." A fake sigh and a smug smile. //hbd to your spoon!!!!

It was no secret ( and also no surprise ) that Nnoitra only had ONE friend at school. Actually, he only had one friend. Period. Doffy was definitely the only one who would remember his birthday. Well, except for his mother. She had congratulated him this morning, and given him a birthday present that turned out to be a white dress-shirt for wearing to church. He had ( sarcastically ) said that he couldn’t wait to wear it. Then he had seen her face, and told her ‘ I’m just kidding ‘, and promised that he would go to church with her the coming Sunday. As he had walked to school, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed that he hadn’t gotten something useful. Like a new computer game. Mah, he was used to not getting what he wanted, so this didn’t bother him TOO much.

When he arrived at school, Doffy was one of the first people he spotted, and he headed straight in that direction to greet his eccentric friend. Doffy was, as always, PACKED with energy. Meeting Doffy first thing in the morning was more or less the same as drinking a cup of coffee. Nnoitra’s ‘ good morning ‘ was him cocking his head back, and what he got in return? Doffy THROWING something at him. Surprised, Nnoitra attempted ( and succeeded ) in catching all the little boxes. He could thank his sharp basketball-reflexes for not dropping any of them on the ground. He quickly recognized them as pocky candy, in various flavors. Yeah, he remembered now.. There was a thing called ‘ pocky day ‘ which happened to be on his birthday. He didn’t really know anything about it, but from what Doffy was saying, he was ASSUMING it was something fucking lame. He gave him a suspicious look, before grinning.

Softly his fingers squeezed Doffy’s hand, a confirmation that he was there with him, no one else to break the moment they were sharing. Gaze rested on his features, lips that spoke words he knew no one else heard as his other hand traced the outline of his jawline, fingers going through blond hair in appreciation.

“ You’re awfully romantic today. ” A teasing remark before he smiled, warmed by the words alone. It was rare for them to enjoy each other’s company like this lately, and every moment was a memory to hold dearly.

“ We’re always connected, Doffy. It doesn’t matter in which way, we just are. And we’ll stay that way, forever. Don’t tell me you’re doubting our abilities? ” Cheekily he added, knowing well that thoughts of Doffy made his work that much easier. He did it all for him, and they both knew that. “ Once I retire from the Marines you’ll have all of my time and undivided attention. ”

She knew faces. She knew reputations, famous and infamous.

She kept names in her little book, a wish list of pieces she wanted to add to her collection. His name wasn’t there for a multitude of reasons, one being that she wasn’t so in over her head that she thought herself capable of tangling with a man of his stature.

But when she saw him, she brightened. She sucked in her breath and felt it flutter in her chest.

“Never thought I’d have the blessed chance to lay eyes on you,” cooed the snake, “but there ya are.”

Cat!Doffy is pawing at Vergo's face. /wake up human and feed me/ "Nya!"

Every evening he’d take some time to nap, to recharge his batteries and be focused on the rest of his tasks he’d need to do, to make sure he didn’t make any mistakes that would require investment of more time later. It was a habit, and ever since he got his cat, Doffy was the one to join him in evening napping.

Until he was hungry again, that is.

Softness of little kitty paws was soothing in its own way, even if his pet demanded attention. He really spoiled him too much. One eye opened to look at his little friend and a smile lingered on lips, and a “nya” followed, a cry for food.

Fingers caressed Doffy’s soft fur, patting the little grumpy head. “ Good evening to you too. What would his little highness eat now? ”

Gram in his hands, and a smile on his face, he was fully ready to take it all, ready to take all this love Doffy was offering. Fate was such a cursed thing, standing in-between those who should never part, an avalanche of emotions taking down those unable to stand up to it. But he knew all of that when he freed him, they both did. It was destined to happen, yet it was love at first sight, he was sure of it.

His words were confident, earnest, clear, just as Doflamingo’s were. “ If this is how you prove your love to me, then I’m more than happy to die like this. But I also need to prove my love to you so I can’t die just yet. I’ll prove it by surviving. ”

Vergo loves animals and animals in general tend to love Vergo too. He loves their earnestness and the ability to show their emotions, the way they bond with their owner, the gentleness of their characters, or even when they can act like little assholes. He finds it adorable and enjoys the company, being just as earnest and relaxed in return, quickly bonding with the animals he decides to adopt.

So far he hasn’t found an animal he’s afraid of, secretly wishing he could become friends with every single animal there is. He hasn’t had pets during his childhood, so he’s trying to keep the number to a minimum as an adult, but he will always stop and spend time and give food to strays, seeing a sort of connection with them as he himself is a stray in a way. G-5 does have a few dogs in the base, all brought in and trained by Vergo, and while the dogs see him as their owner, his subordinates spend most of the time with them because of Vergo’s duties as Vice Admiral. He also has a carrier pigeon he loves dearly, trained to return home to Dressrosa as a way of communication with Doffy if he can’t make it there. Her name is Grigori, meaning fast in Greek.

In his pet owner verse he’s a dedicated per owner to his one (1) beloved pet (unless the pet finds friends along his adventures and brings them home).

His favourite animals are: dogs because he appreciates their undying loyalty, cats because they’re assholes, pandas because they are cute and make him laugh, tigers because they’re big cool assholes, and birds, thanks to a beloved friend who shared his enthusiasm and passion for them with him.
