Had an enjoyable evening at Nam Hwa Opera (NHOL)’s 56th anniversary dinner. We celebrated a number of milestones, including the opening of the Yeo Khee Lin Teochew Culture Research Centre (杨启霖潮州文化研究中心) and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with National University of Singapore for students and faculty members to conduct research at the Centre – a partnership to encourage more people to learn about Teochew culture and heritage. Since it was established, NHOL has been dedicated to promoting and developing Teochew opera and music in Singapore. I’m happy to see that NHOL is engaging young audiences by conducting workshops for children and youths, and taking the initiative to explore innovative ways of presenting Teochew opera performances. These efforts are key to ensuring that such art forms, as an important part of our intangible cultural heritage, are safeguarded and passed down to future generations. My heartiest congratulations once again to NHOL! I wish you every success in your future endeavours, and hope that more will continue to support our local traditional arts scene. #artsforall #oursgheritage #NamHwaOpera #TeochewOpera #teochew #culture https://www.instagram.com/p/B59q6U5nfO4/?igshid=53slkbgb2ck9
