Have you ever wondered how Bukit Merah, or Red Hill, got its name? Find the 🌈 in your day! We are dealing with heightened tensions re: the #coronavírus situation here. There were two cases reported just blocks from this #shophouse ! It hasn’t stopped me from going outside though I am wary of confined spaces. Be cautious but also live your life. Interactive art is such a wonderful way for anyone to appreciate art. We passed by “Autonomous Resonating Life On The Water And Resonating Trees”, an exhibit of 334 floating eggs that light up and play a musical note depending on the color of the egg. It is just one of seven interactive exhibits at #gardensbythebay new art exhibition #futuretogether. Modern art is such a wonderful way for people of all ages to share #intangibleculturalheritage right? #ourSGheritage I’d love to see this come alive at night! Had an enjoyable evening at Nam Hwa Opera (NHOL)’s 56th anniversary dinner. We celebrated a number of milestones, including the opening of the Yeo Khee Lin Teochew Culture Research Centre (杨启霖潮州文化研究中心) and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with National University of Singapore for students and faculty members to conduct research at the Centre – a partnership to encourage more people to learn about Teochew culture and heritage. Since it was established, NHOL has been dedicated to promoting and developing Teochew opera and music in Singapore. I’m happy to see that NHOL is engaging young audiences by conducting workshops for children and youths, and taking the initiative to explore innovative ways of presenting Teochew opera performances. These efforts are key to ensuring that such art forms, as an important part of our intangible cultural heritage, are safeguarded and passed down to future generations. My heartiest congratulations  once again to NHOL! Was great to see Singaporeans pledging their support for the nomination of Hawker Culture in Singapore for UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage at Our SG Hawker Culture Travelling Exhibition. Our Hawker Culture reflects Singapore's multicultural society, as people from all walks of life gather at our hawker centres, dining and celebrating our food heritage together in a communal space. It is important that we continue to promote our Hawker Culture and give recognition to our hawkers, so that future generations can continue to enjoy this integral part of Singapore living.
