Teppo Numminen, assistant coach of the Buffalo Sabres 2013 (*. I don’t know why Sebastian Aho’s interview gifs made me think of him.

*) of course he was above all a huge player, born in Tampere, raised by Tappara, drafted by the Jets but remembered better elsewhere.

Ted Nolan just officially fired one of my most favorite people in the entire world and I want to cry

I mean I get that he’s the head coach now and wants to bring in his “own guys”

but no

Teppo Numminen is one the things I actually love so much about this team and this just breaks my heart. I respect him so much as a player and a person and I’m so proud that he retired a Sabre and settled here with his family. He is seriously one of the nicest individuals I have ever known, probably THE nicest athlete I have ever met, every time I’ve talked to him he is just so wonderful, it’s like he actually cares about everyone so much. I have so many lovely stories of when my friends and I have chatted with him after practices or at other things, he is just the best.

Obviously this is a hockey decision and I understand that but ugh it’s more to me and I am just crushed

Teppo Numminen understands. The Sabres assistant coach has lived through some of this, too, when current Dallas coach Lindy Ruff was his boss here.

Numminen had a valve replaced in his heart in September, 2007. He sat out the entire 2007-08 season until playing in the season finale in Boston, and then played 57 games in the ’08-09 season before retiring.

Numminen said he’s available if Peverley needs to talk.

“I’ll tell Lindy I’m here if he needs me,” Numminen said. “He knows what happened to me, so if I can help with anything, sure I would do that.”
