Is TerraTech (2018) a Soup or a Salad?
Soup
Salad
I have now played at least 3 games where you play as a robot with interchangeable parts and the ability to take said parts from your enemies. Cogmind is an excellent rougelike that executes this concept better than any other game I’ve ever played. The thing to note is that cogmind is a 2D ASCII game from a solo dev, and it’s more fun than TerraTech, which uses a full 3d physics engine and block based building system. The thing to note is the huge impact that UI and art style have - terratech has a generally unremarkable low-poly world with parts that look like they came from sci-fi vehicle concept art. Cogmind’s UI looks like something a robot would design for themselves, the 2D blocks of the world look like approximations of sensor data, and it’s world features a ton of non-combat robots to scrap for parts. Despite the fact that terratech actually lets you build a 3d robot using parts from other scrapped bots, and cogmind is ASCII, cogmind feels like a far better implementation of the idea because every part of the game works together. I highly recommend reading the developer’s blog. The third game is crossout, which deserves commendation for making it work in multiplayer.
apparently terratech has type matchups
I wanted better ones than you, even though you were there. I had fancier ones than you, but they failed where you prevailed. You evolved with me throughout my journey, and never let me down. You are my favourite tech!
Fanart for TerraTech video game. Based on an actual craft i used to play through an entire campaign. Drawing based 90% on actual Terratech building blocks, with some custom detailing added in.
I played terratech today, so OF COURSE I have music from that stuck in my head.
