❝ “Oh I didn’t realize you were…” “What? Tall? Rugged? Handsome?” “Blind.” “You know, I always forget that one.” ❞
The only child of the once rich and influential pureblood family Flint, Terrence started out life in a safe a comfortable life. There was plenty of money and he was the apple of his parent’s eyes. From the minute he could talk and walk Terrence was becoming the perfect pureblood prince. But nothing good lasts forever and during a trip to the nearby city when Terrence was seven the family car was struck by another driver and spun out of control, crashing into a nearby building. Terrence’s father was killed on impact and both Terrence and his mother were severely injured. While they were rushed to the closest hospital by the time the witches and wizards of St. Mungo’s arrived it was too late to save his eye sight. How exactly Terrence lost his sight he has never bothered to learn, but when Terrence woke up in St. Mungo’s a few days later his world was dark. Despite the tragic loss of his sight both Terrence and his mother recovered in full, but there was nothing that could replace all they had lost. Without Marcus to lead the family and his mother utterly distraught with grief the family money slowly started to slip through their fingers. For the next few years nothing seemed to go right. Business deals went sour or fell through and the Flint family reputation started to flounder. Terrence’s mom was finding it hard to balance running the family business and helping her son adjust to a life without his sight. Those years were rough but when Terrence turned ten thing slowly started to even out and the family money stopped slipping away. The day Terrence set foot on the Hogwarts Express was the day he felt the heavy weight of his future settle on his shoulders. As the only heir to the family fortune, when he graduated it would be up to him to fix his family. Lost and afraid Terrence spent the next six years doing everything he could to not think about the future that lay ahead of him. How could someone like him restore his family to greatness? He could barely handle furniture changes let alone family finances. However, it was at Hogwarts that Terrence learned to spread his wings and fly. Smothered by his over protective mother Terrence found great freedom in being able to roam the halls as he pleased. Sure, he ran into his fair share of tables and suits of armor but Terrence was a fast learner and by his second year he’d mapped out a general floor plan of much of Hogwart’s hallways. He loved his mother, he really did, but her suffocating rules would not follow him to Hogwarts. Just because he was blind did not mean that he was incompetent or unable to function. Unwilling to let the people aroud him coddle him Terrence made it his personal goal to prove to the doubters that he could do what they could do, sometimes he just had to go about it in a different manner. While some of these quests were not successful Terrence doesn’t let on how disheartening it really is. If he can prove to the doubters that his blindness isn’t holding him back then maybe he’ll be able to prove to himself that he can lead his family to the glory they deserve. Terrence tends to be a very reserved sort of person. He doesn’t go out of his way to pull people to him, but rather he prefers they come to him. Even then though, it’s a hard feat to convince him to let them in. Terrence hides behind thick walls of dark humor and dry with, preferring to keep most people at bay. He’s not a cruel person by any means but he’s not the sort of guy who likes hanging out in the common room just to hang out and talk. Those that do wiggle their way in however find that behind all of his talk and bravado he’s really just scared. Terrence doesn’t want to view his disability as a hindrance to his every day life but there are days and moments Terrence just can’t find the light at the end of the tunnel. Terrence feels like his world is standing on shaky legs and every step forward only means to stutter steps back.
