happy terrifier release day 🎉
I’m still trying to sort how i feel about Terrifier. The aesthetics were great, Art the clown has this interesting performer take on the slasher killer, and there’s some dark comedy worked in but its a slasher exploitation film through and through. teen(?) girls in their underwear get murdered you know the deal. It’s very effective at being what it is but i can’t stomach excessive gore and Terrifier is bloodsoaked. And the effects are so good and visceral and disgusting. Everything is onscreen, eyeballs are popping out, bodyparts are everywhere, 500 gallons of fake blood. The visuals really stick in your head in a deeply unsettling way.
plot wise there isnt really any motivation or importance to any of the characters. I know its a slasher but like Leatherface kills people because he’s afraid of disobeying his family, Myers is returning to his hometown, Vorhees and mom Vorhees are fucking up the crystal lake teens because he kind of drowned there. It doesnt have to be complicated i just need a little bit of something to hold onto with Art. He’s got this performance schtick going for him but i just want a tiny little “why?”. And the victims are just random people wandering around. They dont stumble upon his house or anything they’re just there. I’m willing to let it slide because Art has a lot of potential and he’s played well but if there’s ever another installment i want a lil more yknow?
anyway 7ish/10 it made me sick and sad and that’s what good horror usual does to me but im gonna stick to 80s slashers with subpar effects that was way too much
