We have a Jekyll/Hyde ferret
Mochi is a sweetheart. Cuddles, bouncy playtime, dooking so much. But... he has recently shown a darker side.
Started with him finding a bag of chips that fell behind the nightstand that we totally forgot about. He freaked out when we were getting it away from him, but we chalked it up to it being food, and his little teeth made it through the bag so he could smell the cheddar and sour cream potato goodness inside. Tonight, he found the little charcoal scent absorbent baggie that hangs above their ‘outside’ litterbox. Cue ten minutes of jumping, and he finally sinks his teeth into that. Same reaction as getting the chips away from him. Freaking out, barking, and a little coughing- possible due to dust. He even bit Kage, not enough to draw blood, but still a sharp nip.
A bit of research later, and it’s signs of being territorial. He found things that he wanted, and didn’t like us trying to take them away. We are going to keep an eye on him, in case any dust he might have inhaled has adverse effects, and to try and curb this behavior before he’s an adult.
I suppose it’s a good thing he’s not the first ferret of a household. This could have been a whole lot worse, because he came into Echo ‘owning’ everything already, instead of him owning everything and getting a little sibling sometime and needing to learn to share as an adult.
