Continuing on the perks of being a Tasmanian Terror fan, as requested by many [re: two] people, some pics of Sir John Franklin’s Birdshit Statue.

The inscription is mostly eroded but the part at the bottom apparently goes:

“Not here! The white north hath thy bones and thou

Heroic sailor soul

Art passing on thine happier voyage now

Toward no earthly pole”

And when I said I walk past it nearly every day, I wasn’t exaggerating. He’s dead centre in the middle of Hobart and surrounded by bus terminals.

Some very hastily taken pictures as I was transferring busses. What I’m trying to illustrate here is how inescapable his shadow and legacy of colonialism is for Tasmanians. Someone get Tuunbaq to eat the statue too please I’m tired of looking at it every day.

There’s a post out there about how fandom rises up to fill the holes that canon leaves behind (something about how MCU fans wish their canon had good writing, very salty :D, if I find it again I’ll update with a link )

If you look at the Terror fandom, fanworks are overwhelmingly fix-its, fluff-n-smut, and AUs. 

Which tells us, I think, that what the fans want from the Terror was ... for the characters to live. For them to be happy (including fucking each other with a truly staggering variety). And for us to have more of them, which given how the show ended means fixits and AUs are kind of the only way to go ....

For a creator, I can’t imagine a higher compliment TBH.

So I’m working on this Jopzier fic and I keep having to watch the first scene w Crozier and Jopson again and again and again—the “close is nothing” scene. You know, with the thread-nip *fans self and fucking faints* and the introduction of the 110% perfect character dynamics and the everything else, and also because my fic relies heavily on this scene... but I feel like I’ve watched it so many times Hulu is gonna email me like “??? watch something else ??? are you really paying us just to watch a rosy-cheeked cutie-pie put epaulets on his admittedly perf Irish daddy ??? WHY ARE TERROR FANS LIKE THIS ???”
