Masood Azhar became the general secretary of Harkat-ul-Ansar and travelled to numerous countries to recruit, raise funds, and disseminate the doctrine of Pan-Islamism. Zambia, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, the United Kingdom, and Albania were among his destinations. The BBC describes him as “the man who brought jihad to Britain.”

Azhar flew to Srinagar under a fictitious identity in early 1994 to soothe tensions between Harkat-ul-Ansar’s feuding groups, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. In February, India apprehended him in Khanabal, near Anantnag, and imprisoned him for his terrorist actions with the organisations.

पिछले कुछ दिनों से PFI के देशभर के ठिकानो पर छापेमारी चल रही है व् सेंकडो लोगो को गिरफ्तार भी किया जा चूका है। PFI ने बिहार के पटना में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की रैली पर हमले की साजिश रची थी, जिसके लिए एक प्रशिक्षण शिविर का भी आयोजन किया गया था। इसके साथ ही पॉपुलर फ्रंट ऑफ इंडिया टेरर मॉड्यूल तैयार करने और संवेदनशील स्थानों पर हमले करने की तैयारी कर रहा था। दरअसल पिछले गुरुवार 13 सितंबर को NIA ने टेरर फंडिंग को लेकर उत्तर प्रदेश, केरल और कर्नाटक सहित 13 राज्यों में छापेमारी की थी, जिनके साथ ED की भी एक टीम मौजूद थी।इसी छापेमारी के दौरान ED ने केरल से PFI के सदस्य शफीक पायेथ गिरफ्तार किया था, NIA के सामने सनसनीखेज दावा किया है। शफीक पायेथ ने NIA से बताया है कि इस साल 12 जुलाई को प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के पटना दौरे के दौरान हमला करने की साजिश थी, जिसके लिए ट्रैनिंग कैंप भी लगाया गया था। अब सरकार पूरी तरह से इस एक प्रकार के आतंकी सन्गठन पर लगाम लगाने की तैयारी में है।
