Terry Hall (1959-2022) The Specials - vocals Songs: "A Message to You Rudy," "Blank Expression" Propaganda: "Said his motivation for being in a band in the first place was 'to piss people off.' He achieved that and so much more. As the FT put it: 'The Specials fought racists — often literally.' Being a multi-racial band with overtly political songs, they and their gigs were often targeted by the National Front. But they fought back, and were a surprising source of positive guidance for a generation of working class skinheads. With Terry as a front man they garnered a fervent following even before their first album was recorded and released - see 'Concrete Jungle' for their response to the National Front." "Terry had enough charisma to put on an engaging performing with his back to the audience. He had the eyeliner and cheekbones to serve, the red hot glare to go with it, but was somehow really pretty too, not just intimidating. He was passionate but straight-talking. He could stop a fight with a pointed finger and a raised eyebrow.
