I’ve bought nearly everything Corey Cunningham has made - Smokescreens, Terry Malts, Magic Bullets and Business of Dreams.  The first BOD album was a more synthy/80′s pop sound - great.

This still has the synth, but the bass and the melodies are more reminiscent of some of The Bats’ best work (Paul Kean’s basswork comes to mind).  Anytime I throw down a Bats or Chills comparison, please consider it the highest compliment.  The Slumberland page mentions Grant McLennan (The Go-Betweens) as well.

Slumberland will be releasing this next Friday (2/1).  Corey Cunningham is a California (all over, but I think regularly in the Bay Area) based musician.

Smashing chainsaw pop from this great San Francisco group. Smart, funny punk-pop with all the hooks, energy and attitude you could ask for. If you're into The Undertones, Buzzcocks and/or The Exploding Hearts you should definitely check out Terry Malts. Fourteen big tunes, including "Something About You," "Nauseous" and a slamming cover of Negative Approach's "Can't Tell No One."

Terry Malts' punk/pop (but not pop-punk!) classic "Killing Time" is now five years old. If you have a taste for Ramones, Undertones, Buzzcocks, etc you need this record. New yellow vinyl pressing now in stock.

Smokescreens were born out of the ashes of Magic Bullets (that probably is too  dramatic).  I’ve always thought that Magic Bullets were the perfect meeting point between 1980s C86 and modern indie.  Smokescreens takes that and add a lot of 1980s Flying Nun (specifically The Clean) to their sound.

Corey Cunningham seems to be the common denominator.  It will not be surprising to anyone to learn that Corey is also in Terry Malts.  The Bandcamp page also mentions Televison Personalities and The McTells.

This is a cassette release on Parked in Hell.  I’m pretty sure this is a Corey Cunningham label since the only other release is Business of Dreams, a band which is is also a member.

Just saw Baus opening along with the fantastic Neutrals at The Chapel for Sweeping Promises...which I shared pics for already, but turns out I had seen them a couple of times back in 2014 and 2015...

So decided to put up those shows since I couldn't ID any of the tracks on their most recent effort....which means new stuff...so will keep that off the "on line" until they put out a new one.

So here's the 2014 effort ...I'll share the next one a bit later on. This is the only time to date I've ever been to 924 Gilman. Amazing show with Terry Malts / Street Eaters / Manatee (band with Mike Schulman from Slumberland in it) and (whatever happened to?) Yi. Probably deserves its own writeup. Malts and Neutrals did share a Phil at one point, but no longer...
