Haha, it has been a while since I've talked about them!
I think Terry and Thad are compatible in ways, but they don't always fit together exactly and have bumps and hurdles to get over.
The way they are compatible through, I think is through them probably having an extra sense of patience towards the other, their actions and their pasts because they both have less than spotless pasts (and are depending on how one writes them maybe are even a bit ashamed or regret them for different reasons.) They both understand what it's like to make mistakes in your youth, to trust people who don't have their best interest in you, to be seen as the rough around the edges type, and what it's like to be compared to others or living in other's shadows. (Bart for Thad, and Bruce as well as the other former bat sidekicks for Terry.)
I think these similarities especially regarding the issues they struggle with, the thoughts of being compared to others or not being good enough, also make them bump heads at times too. They have a similar stubbornness and believe in themselves as individuals that coming together at times and trusting is hard. And mixing in the fact they are hero and villain also can exacerbate their relationship/compatibility/understanding of the other a bit. Especially since they have differing views of humanity and helping out people. Thad's got that innate selfishness while Terry is willing to help other people. So it's kinda push and pull at times.
They work together, but they also have things they have to work through.

Bruce lecturing Terry after he binded himself to tightly not be able to train properly. All while Terry did it on accident and doesn't want to redo the tape.
Bruce: McGinnis, are you taking this seriously or not? Redo your binding to be able to train at the best of your abilities.
Terry: I could, or I use the best of my time and pass through training without having to restart again.
Bruce: When you "accidentally" injure yourself, you know where the med bay, and myself, are at.
