Mid-east indie rock vibe...
Let's see - two cellos, check... world percussion influenced drummer, check... velvety voiced siren, check... yep, it's another indie rock band from L.A. - key difference being this is a pretty damn great track.

New - Tes Elations - Haunting Reactions
This is one of those funny records I seem to encounter every other week or so that make me so happy that we now reside in the digital age where I can just fucking listen to things. Because if I was introduced to Tes Elations via a description: "Well they're a female fronted chamber-pop post-punk quintet from LA with a minimalist tilt and a heavy Middle Eastern influence." I would have vomited immediately from a violent allergic reaction from the pretention of it all. Then I would have commenced hating them immediately without even hearing a note. I'm kind of a horrible person.
But I was introduced by ear, and I assure you this is an album that you need to just have faith in, descriptions be damned. Yes, they're on-the-nose accurate, but the sound is clearly something that just came together organically rather than putting together those pieces because they thought it high-minded. And they do a marvelous job of pushing the limits of their sound, turning up the level of one element, while the others continue to play a role. If the songs weren't so concise and devoid of vocals, a comparison to Godspeed! or Sigur Ros would be applicable. Coming out of LA, I'm surprised to not see more buzz around this record. I suspect it's coming. It's too good, too accessible, too unique not to. - MO
