Lapis knew it was bad to be wandering Beach City like this. There was a very high chance that at any given moment she could run into Peridot, or any of the Crystal Gems. She knew she wasn’t ready to face that kind of situation... Yet that didn’t stop her from lingering in the familiar town. She tried to convince herself it was the nostalgia she felt for this place that kept her here even after everything that had happened... But she knew that likely wasn’t the case.
It was like letting your fingers hover above a flame. There’s the ever present sense of danger that you’re going to get burned, but you keep your fingers there anyway, curious what might happen when the obvious answer is right in front of you. She found herself following a human into the large restaurant closest to the temple. Steven had told him it was a donut shop of some sort, which didn’t mean anything to her but was in the back of her mind as she entered. She didn’t know what she expected. But what she did NOT expect is to see the gem who’d caused her the most grief in her entire existence.
[ :: 💧 :: ] “ J-Jasper! ”
She stammered, backing up.
[ :: 💧 :: ] “ Oh of course, of COURSE you just HAPPEN to be here. As if it isn’t enough that I ran away and lost everyone important to me, now I’m not even TRYING to live normally and here you are again! “
She couldn’t think of a single reason why Jasper would be here other than to mock her and what had become of her sad life since leaving Peridot.
