VT IN-STORE & SIGNING WITH SPECIAL GUEST MATTHEW SHAW: SATURDAY 16TH FEBRUARY, 4PM-8PM http://www.volcanictongue.com/events/ We are very excited to announce a rare live in-store performance from Matthew Shaw on Saturday 16th February. Matthew is one of the most fascinating figures on the UK drone underground, collaborating with thinkers like Brian Lavelle (as Fougou) and Andrew Paine (as The Blue Tree) while releasing music under his own name and the Tex La Homa pseudonym via a host of labels, including his own Apollolaan Recordings. His music delves deep in Hidden Reverse traditions, incorporating specific environmental soundings of occult landscapes into beautiful drone works that advance the oracular/hallucinogenic English underground tradition of Coil, Richard Youngs, Andrew Chalk et al. Matthew will be presenting an exclusive new piece composed especially for Volcanic Tongue. You can read more about Matthew at his own site here: http://www.texlahoma.com/ The shop will be open 12-8pm on the day, with Matthew in residence from 4pm, where he will be available for signings, making available rare and out of print CDs and CD-Rs and selling copies of his newly published photography collection præ. The music starts at 6pm. See you there! Matthew has generously shared an unreleased track with Volcanic Tongue ahead of his performance. "Museum Street is the first track recorded towards a new series about places I feel drawn to in London. Having focused my attention on site specific recordings over the past few years, usually small villages, or smallish geographic areas of interest to me, quite often single sites, I began to think of a much more ambitious project of tackling parts of London in the same way. I immediately found that any place I chose was rich in recent psychogeography and also quite often an ancient history and prehistory only available to me in fragments or through rumor or folklore. Museum St. is one of these places, within a short distance of the many treasures and artifacts plundered and hidden within the British Museum. Much of this, even at a surface level goes quite unnoticed by the average passer-by I'm sure. Beyond perhaps the obvious sites brought back from Ancient Egypt, Japan or maybe even a glance at John Dee's magical implements in the Museums collection, and a surface glance at the Atlantis bookshop across the way. Delve even a little deeper though and the original portrait of Samuel Macgregor Matthers may seem to be following you around Atlantis from high up on the wall, next to the original Golden dawn wands and sword hung on the wall next to him. The street takes on a different feel after only the mildest meditation and centering of your surroundings, try it for yourself, it's much more interesting that walking to quickly with a cup of take out coffee through the busy London traffic. The track itself was recorded using a Moog Prodigy to recordings made of the street and my voice recorded on location." Matthew Shaw
