Writing Prompt #8: Sci-Fi

You’re an interplanetary messenger. One day, a planet’s leader asks you to relay a message to another; and you realise that the two planets are planning to attack another — the planet your best friend just moved to. You’re under an oath not to disclose information to anyone other than the planet recieving the message — but you can’t leave your friend in the middle of a soon-to-be warzone…can you?

Story Starter #7

“Nothing bad is going to happen,” I urged, begging for her approval.

She finally agreed later that night, and the next day I was boarding a train into the state’s capital with nothing but the clothes on my back, my academy ID card, and the pamphlet the recruiters had offered me.

I was honored to be approached by them - it was something I’d always wished for, but never thought entirely possible.

My mother was furious that I was considering the treatment, but I was overjoyed with the possibility.

Nothing bad is going to happen, I had told her.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Writing Tip #3: Planning

Stop writing while you still know what's going to happen next. It's going to be harder to pick up the next day if you are still unsure about how you're going to write the next scene. I can't tell you how many times this one strategy has saved me.
