Stuart Students Get Lesson in Dangers of Texting and Driving
As part of National Teen Driver Safety Week, students at South Fork High School in Stuart got a lesson in the dangers of texting while driving.
Around 1,700 10th, 11th and 12th graders participated in an AT&T simulator event on Oct. 20. The simulator, a part of the It Can Wait movement started by AT&T, provides a 3D driving simulation through a "city" of about 8 blocks. During the drive, the person on the simulator receives text messages on a smartphone and has to reply.
The simulator creates the eyes-off-the-road and hands-off-the-wheel experience of texting while driving. The South Fork teens were also shown documentaries that tell the real-life stories of people whose lives have been changed forever because of texting while driving.
