Months had passed since everything had fallen into place, since the first day that they’d realized that having a soulmate was a very real thing. Mitaka wasn’t sure he’d ever been happier than he was now, with the knowledge that he and Mattie were meant to be. Neither of them allowed it to interfere with their work, but when their downtime synced up, they were completely inseparable, sharing meals in the mess hall or snuggling down in one of their rooms to watch all manner of cheesy holovids. Life was perfect, now that he had the one thing - the one person he’d been missing this whole time.
And that was why he’d planned the perfect surprise for her, every detail taken care of right down to seeking out permission from the General himself. He showed up at her quarters one evening, after a busy day of work, with a backpack slung over his shoulder and his chest filled with excitement. He pressed the button and eagerly awaited her response, his smile wide and bright when she finally opened the door.
“Good evening, Lieutenant Amato,” he said, his amusement shining through the formality of his greeting. “Are you ready to go on an adventure?”
