How many blanket I sleep under: Um ... ::stops to count::  Two blankets, two duvets, and on top of a heated mattress pad. It’s winter, our bedroom has no insulation. 

Favourite fictional character: My favorite egotistical vampire rockstar boyfriend, Lestat. 

Favourite book: It’s a tie between The Vampire Lestat, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and The Night Circus.

Favourite TV show: Penny Dreadful.

Favourite video game: None. I am missing the video game part of the brain, apparently. I don’t really like them, sorry gang!

Dream wedding: While our wedding (almost 20 years ago!!) was wonderful, I do idly dream of doing it over in a more impressive venue (perhaps a Victorian mansion) with an elaborate Victorian-esque vampire circus theme. And a wildly impractical outfit from @kambriel!

The migraine is gone, thank goodness. Now to muddle through the post-migraine and meds hangover. It’s not awful, and it’s MUCH better than I was yesterday. Thank you for the kind words and thoughts, everyone!

Why do goths wear rosaries and crosses? I'm rather gothically inclined myself and I am okay with people wearing rosaries if they are Catholic and such but I know so many people that wear crosses and are not Christian. Isn't that appropriation and rude to those of faith? (Same goes with ankhs for people that don't practice or believe in the older Egyptian religions tbh)

I suspect goths started wearing rosaries and crosses because:

Shock value. Unnerving "normal" people by flaunting symbols of mainstream faiths as fashion.

Easy to find. Back in the Days of Yore, finding rosaries and crosses in near-bulk lots at thrift stores was super-easy.

They're usually very pretty.

As for ankhs:

Again, spiritual/mystical/occult symbolism.

Symbol of eternal life --> vampires --> classic gothic archetype. 

For gothy types who are comics fans, there's the tribute to Death of the Endless.

Personally, I collect vintage rosaries because 1) they're pretty, and 2) they're a tangible artifact of someone's faith and energy. I am by no means Catholic (tho' my paternal grandmother was, and my dad was raised Catholic), but having an object that symbolizes someone connecting themselves to the Divine through repeated words and actions resonates with me. 

I collect ankhs (and generally put them on my vintage rosaries), because the symbolism behind it resonates with me for a lot of reasons. Yes, including the "eternal life = vampirism" reason and because of the link to keys. 

Do I think wearing rosaries, crosses, and ankhs is appropriative? Not really. But then, I've done decades of reading about folklore, mythology, and the meaning of symbols. All of which goes back to my oft-repeated view that if you're going to wear a symbol, do some research so you know what it means.

As in many things, I blame minim-calibre about this latest interest I'm spending far too much time reading about.

Reading reviews of vintage and hard-to-find perfumes is fascinating. From the Kafkaesque review of Chanel Coromandel: "But it is incense and smoke wrapped up in powder, pearls, lace and cashmere". (minim, having tried it yesterday, said it is a scent that is "As Jilli as it gets". Incense and chocolate notes, yes, good.)

I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PERFECTLY CONTENT WITH MY STOCKPILE OF ANGEL AND BLOOD POPSICLE. I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LURED INTO READING ABOUT OTHER PERFUMES, STUNT SHERLOCK. THIS IS YOUR FAULT.

... and now I kinda-sorta want to hunt down a decant of vintage Poison from Dior. Not the weird reformulation, the original heady elixir.

Tattoos and nail polish

Thanks for the all the nice comments about my bat tattoos! Yes, they were designed for me by the RealHusband, peteventers, and were the first ones I had done at piercedheartstattooparlor. If all goes well this evening, staxilicious is going to help me get proper photos of almost all my tattoos.

Several of you asked about the nail polish I'm currently wearing: it's black gel polish, topped with a thick layer of a mix of black and silver holographic glitter, then the gel top coat. minim-calibre has loaned me her UV gel manicure light, and I've been going bonkers with the ability to have long-lasting and SMOOTH FINISHED glitter manicures.

Hi peeps! The Motley Crue and Alice Cooper concert was good fun. Fireworks! Flamepots! Problematic music I will always be ridiculously fond of! Hearing Shout at the Devil in concert one last time! WHOOOOO! ::throws the horns, giggles delightedly::

However, now I'm going to be mostly vanishing for a bit, as there's a dayjob deadline this week. WRITE ALL THE THINGS.
