The silence had quite obviously been little more than unsettling to Laurelei. It wasn't as if she hadn't experienced it countless times before, with the absence of any voices to fill a soundless void. Even as the rain pelted down and lightning flashed overhead, she barely batted an eye. If anything, the thunder would have been the one thing to put her on edge.
No, instead, it was the sudden increase in noise that truly derailed her mental stability. Namely, the never-ending hum that throbbed in her ears. She felt her entire being tense and cringe at the sound, a tingle running up her spine. The urge to just sprint and get the hell away was strong, and yet her movements became stiff in the wake of the approaching threats.
Funny. She almost wished she had been scared out of her mind by the eerie silence, instead.
