Sideways losing his two lovers, hopping to another universe after a bit and just going "hey sugar cakes, wanna see something fucked up?" And just unravels animated's universe by shaking his funni Unicron artifact for shits and giggles. Smart spy vs horrors beyond your imaginations ship.
I am adding rattle text here because I don't wanna be alone with my transformers facts, especially about Sideways. He has invaded my brain and I love how terrifying he is as a character.
Ok so basics, Sideways, originally from the Armada continuity, is a dimentional hopper and Herald of Unicron. He has/had two mini-con partners, Rook and Crosswise (who combine to become Mirror) also they work as his helmets/rider. He was bestowed a gift from Unicron the Chaos God, trans-phase generator, making him in theory an immortal being. You cannot really destroy him in classic ways.
He can survive being cut, headless, just dust, data...whatever you can think of. It is canon that he did not die in the end of Armada/Micron Legends. The bot that died was Mirror unfortunately. After what happened in the Unicron Trilogy, he moved on to other universes, Vector Prime has agreed to this fact (Ask Vector Prime is a lot of fun to read).
The Animated Universe, lacking a Primus and Unicron, is a very different from most tf universes. But Sideways hopped there during the war Ratchet and Arcee went through. Sideways became a decepticon general, was captured and tossed on Axalon ship commanded by Primal Prime. Using Trans-Phase generator, Sideways got free and tossed the whole ship into a blackhole as per of Longarm's report. Sideways used the blackhole to hop to another universe... then to Bayverse and then to IDW he went. But it is not sure if he is the same or other Sideways after the bayverse (also Sideways loves lying)
But here is the thing, the generator is Unicron in origin. It is a piece of Chaos God. Sideways may have intentionally or not may have thrown whole Animated Universe off the balance from the beginning and thus the chaos of what happened in the series. The lack of Primus and Unicron makes it dangerous to toss anything related to the two gods into it (and that both gods can travel the universes but that is a whole another can of worms). And all universes need their balance, or it effects the whole cluster of universes (wow gee I wonder what happened in Energon hmm).
Anyway, it is canon that Longarm Prime knew what kind of device Sideways had, but not of it's origin (this is info from Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II) . And thus I wanted to draw my dear chaos seed farmer in Animated universe.
The text on left is his travels through different dimentions and references to his Ask Vector Prime heist. On the right is text of the Hydra Cannon, Requirem Blaster, Skyboom Shield and Starsaber, along with how that plan went and who ruined it all for Sideways.
I love Sideways. He is a terrifying lil' shit and is one of the most dangerous bots. I do like the theory that he basically is a pre-cursor for chaos to happen. A plague rat if it was a bot.
