This came to my mind and now I wanna know what Studio Ghibli film would the circus members like the most, and if possible, your ocs Stoker and Painter as well.
HMMMMM. OK. Just know that i haven't seen every ghibli movie!
Pierrot: Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Moving Castle
Harlequin: Princess Mononoke
Doctor: The Secret World of Arriety or Ponyo
TicketTaker: Spirited Away (esp. for the ending)
Jester: The Tale of Princess Kaguya
Now for my OCs:
Stoker: Kiki's Delivery Service
Painter: The Tale of Princess Kaguya but he didn't pay attention to the story, just the art. For story, he likes My Neighbor Totoro.
A "The Freak circus" by Nekoboydreams fanfic oneshot.
The Painter belongs to @destinysquared .
Fortune Teller belongs to me
The afternoon was beginning to fall into evening as Fortune Teller had finished posting and handing out flyers to promote the Circus. While usually he stays back at the circus during the morning and through the afternoon to help set up the day's performances, every now and again he'd fill in for Pierrot or Harlequin in handing out flyers. Fortune Teller didn't particularly mind sure he got the usual looks from humans, some with suspicion, others with disgust, and a few who were enraptured by his Fortune Teller mystique.
Fortune Teller chuckled, Humans could be so easily mystified at times, the grey cloaked oracle thought made his way back in the direction of the Circus. Crossing into the hidden Territory where the monsters of the city the circus was currently set up in to hopefully not get into any altercations with a human. The street he went along was quiet, there were a few others here and there but it seemed tonight was going to be a slow one, Fortune Teller's grey eyes flicked from one thing to another to occupy his mind with questions and thoughts, as the short monster continued his way home.
As Fortune Teller turned a corner and walked down a deserted street, his eyes fell upon a bunch of posters and adverts plastered to one to the brick walls of a building. The posters all ranged from basic human products to posters of other hidden monster businesses, however his eyes soon landed on one flyer that made him stop in his tracks. It was a flyer of a theme park advertisement, with an all too familiar intricate design to it. Fortune Teller's previous calmness vanished into alarm as he drew closer, hoping he was just seeing things, but unfortunately for the grey clad circus performer it wasn't his eyes playing tricks, He was going to show up in this town.
Fortune Teller clenched his jaw, he still remembered the betrayals and fires. He remembered stumbling around flaming tents clutching his most important and sentimental belongings, while frantically searching for the others even as the smoke and ash made him cough and gag. Fearing that the others were badly hurt, Or worse... That he would lose his family all over again. Fortune Teller shook his head as he dispelled the dark memories, he yanked the flyer from the wall, frowning down at the piece of paper in his hands. He was going to have to show this to Jester when he got back, or Ticket Taker, whichever he ran into first as he quickly turned and started down the narrow street again.
Fortune Teller had only walked a pace before a voice cut through the quiet, "Ah! The wonderful Oracle who has everyone pawing for a card reading, it's been quite a while dear Fortune Teller." Fortune Teller went rigid, he didn't want to believe it, but the scent of roses that now started to fill the air cast out all doubt as he slowly turned to look behind him. Grey eyes soon met silver ones both similar but different, dressed in that familiar accursed white hanfu, long black hair that was put up slightly, grinning like he had found a fancy new toy was The Painter. "You..." Fortune Teller said as he started up at him, still tense, this was bad. He was alone, the Circus was still a good distance away, he was truly on his own as he stood against someone who had been a source for the circus's woes. Painter cocked his head slightly, "Oh? Not even a Hello? That's so impolite." Painter said with a small pout as the taller creature began to draw closer. Fortune Teller stared hard at Painter, "What is it that you want? Why are you here?" Painter's expression snapped into a wide sharp smile as he started a slow circle around the shorter cloaked creature while Fortune Teller watched him, "I was hoping for some cheeky banter but i suppose not." Painter hums before speaking again, "You have good talents, you know that? You are remarkable in your card readings and your acrobatics, So versatile for someone like you."
Fortune Teller grimaced, that phrase 'for someone like you' he had heard things like that from various other monsters throughout the years. He hated it and how it made it seem like his accomplishments were somehow based on luck, "It's a shame that your attraction doesn't get the attention it deserves..." Painter says with an overly sad tone as he stops in front of Fortune Teller. "You could have so much more people enthralled back in the Amusement park." The Taller monster then says as he grins down at Fortune Teller. Those words stuck Fortune Teller like a hammer blow as he stared bewildered, there was no way he was actually hearing what he was hearing, sure both of them were young but surely Painter wasn't actually asking him to join him after everything, "So? How about we show you just what you have been missing out on hm? We can get you the most suitable attraction set up for you~" Painter says with a grin that truly believes that his offer will work. Fortune Teller stares, he stares and every emotion flatlines for a moment.... And then slowly a feeling began to grow in his stomach, it was like that of boiling molten metal, and it was only getting hotter and hotter as his brow knitted together, a scowl growing on the lips of his mask and his hands closing into trembling firsts. If he were anything like Jester or Ticket Taker, he'd have either silently turned and walked away or declined with backhanded politeness, but he did not have the patience or levelheadedness of either...
"You tried to hurt my family.... You burn down my home times before.... And now you have the nerve, the Audacity to stand here and try to get me to join your amusement park?" Fortune Teller's voice started off quiet but grew as fury, rage and utter hatred began to bleed through, "And for what? That this will somehow make Jester join you? Did you really think that just because i am a RUNT that I was an easy target? Oh you... You... You Criança delirante e burro!" Fortune Teller spat out in rage, all while Painter looked down at him, "I could give you a thousand card readings and not a single one will give you the answer you desire. Now go back to your cheap knockoff off my home and back to your stupid followers and leave me alone." Fortune Teller growled as he turned and stormed off back in the direction of the circus, Painter silently watching him go.
As Fortune Teller stormed along the empty streets, his anger soon bled away and as it did the realization of what he had done crossed through the shorter monster's mind. Fortune Teller stopped a little ways outside the circus as cold dread and guilt began to grow, expression crumbling, "Oh... Oh no..." He said in a small voice, he realized he might have just put the Circus and the others in danger, he blinked as tears pricked at the corners of his eyes, he looked down at the crumpled flyer in his hand, 'Jester... I need to find Jester now.' Fortune Teller thought frantically as he rushed forward back among the colorful tents while wiping away the tears before they could fall.
I hope you enjoy this Destiny! I tried my best to write Painter as in character as i could and i hope i portrayed him well!
And yeah lol Fortune Teller would HATE Painter, he sees him as a threat to everything he holds close.
You also get the fun fact that Fortune Teller is considered a runt, since there looks like a lot of animal type of imagery with Monster culture i can imagine that there is such things as monsters who are born as runts and the idea of there being a stigma against them, like how TT is called a "dull-claw" monster in a derogatory manner for whatever species of monster he is.
"A Caged Shadow" is a work by the shadow beast known as Midnight, called "The Painter" by the few visitors to her tent. This is merely a remake of the original work, created by the Painter herself, who claimed that her first piece was "a blasphemy against art itself due to its poor composition."
In this composition, a room is depicted, making Midnight appear gigantic, or perhaps suggesting that the room is a containment box. She has refused to reveal her true nature, but what is perceptible is that she has a sad, almost tearful expression.
Painter’s design is badass but I can’t find like a good reference. Do you have a ref sheet for your OCs per chance?
I am in the process of making a ref sheet for my OCs <3 patreon members have a full look first though, as they've seen me draw/paint what i have so far!
Also maybe a third AU of mine is getting 'some' attention there too~
Silly question about your ocs, what is an embarrassing moment they have that they will never tell a soul?
asdkfsdkjlfdskljfkjl that's amazing XD!!!
Stoker: "Well....I er....don't usually like to bring it up, but when I was a young thing, no higher than a table, I once tried to climb a cactus cause my Pa' said it had water. Came back full of enough needles stickin' out of me to look like a porcupine---I think the local townsfolk made a big fuss out of it all and my family had to leave. The whole clan looked at me, all annoyed like, I never felt so ashamed. All cause I got thirsty near some goats---them humans thought I was a local legend! I hear they STILL talk about it, can you believe that?"
Painter: "Who? Me? I don't have any such moments like these, I mean, look at at me. No, really---stare all you like. I charge after the first ten minutes or so~"
(TLDR; Painter has had so many embarrassing moments that he cannot say because anyone who witnessed them are now dead and his memory is shit. But I can break my legally binding contract with him and tell you of one: he once forgot his lover's name for an entire year and when they finally corrected him, he threw them off the roller coaster.)
So we know that the circus boys are from Brazil, do you think there are any monsters from other countries? Asking because I kinda wanna make a monster OC from Korea
