Rest in Peace Susan Backlinie, her two minute appearance in Jaws was seared in to the collective minds of cinephiles across the globe! born on September 1, 1946, in Ventura, California, was an accomplished actress best known for her iconic role as Chrissie Watkins in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster film “Jaws.” Backlinie’s portrayal of the ill-fated swimmer in the opening scene of the film left an indelible mark on cinema history, setting the tone for one of the most suspenseful and thrilling movies of all time.
Before her memorable performance in “Jaws,” Backlinie worked as a stuntwoman and actress, appearing in various television shows and films. However, it was her role in “Jaws” that catapulted her to international fame. Her chilling portrayal of terror and vulnerability as she faced the infamous shark captivated audiences and cemented her status as a screen legend.
Following her success in “Jaws,” Backlinie continued to work in the entertainment industry, appearing in a variety of films and television productions. Despite her varied roles, she remained forever associated with the groundbreaking horror classic that launched her career.
Beyond her work in film and television, Backlinie was known for her adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. She embraced life with gusto, always seeking new experiences and challenges.
Susan Backlinie’s talent, grace, and unforgettable performance in “Jaws” will forever be celebrated and remembered by audiences around the world. Though she may have left this world, her legacy as an actress and her contribution to cinematic history will endure for generations to come.
