Lot's of people want to know more about the chipboard game boards that are coming later this summer. We don't have all the details yet, because we're still finalizing the manufacturing process, but I can share a few details with you. This photo is an example of what the board looks like. (Artwork courtesy "A Day At The Faire" by Ice Pack Games.)
It is an 18x18 inch quad fold board (four 9x9 inch panels). You'll upload two 18x9 inch images, for which we will of course provide templates with trim lines and bleed indicators and so forth. There will be approximately a quarter inch of black border showing all the way around the board.
The finished board is approximately 1/8 of an inch thick. We start with four chipboard plates, which we glue hinges to. Then we cover the back of the hinged chipboard with a textured gloss black wrap to give it a professional feel. The black wrap comes around to the front, which is what provides that nice black border around the outside of the play surface. Then we glue the play surface to the board. The result is a beautiful professional game board.
We're still trying out various paper stocks that we want to use for the play surface. Because of that, and a few other details, we cannot yet give you a final price for the game board. However, we've had so many requests for a "ballpark" figure that we'll do our best. The price of the game board will be somewhere between $4 and $7 per board, probably somewhere in the middle, but it's just too early to tell.
Hopefully that answers more questions than it creates. If we didn't include a detail that you'd like to know about in this post, it's most likely because we don't know the answer to that question yet. However, you're still welcome to post a reply here and we'll do our best to answer it.
