if history truly is repeating itself like with supot + yuth and pom + chanon, then that means pang is probably going to use his potential on wave at some point and i dont think im ready to see that. their friendship is already in such shambles but honestly that would just break it to a point thats hard to come back from. and it would absolutely crush both of them emotionally because we know pang hates using his potential, let alone on people he cares about, and wave has been used by people he trusts his whole life so that would be such a huge betrayal because he thought pang was different (i think the only reason hes feeling that right now is because punn copied pangs potential and used it on him, but thats just me). my hope is that they will be the duo that breaks this cycle but at this point it feels like everything is on the table especially since from the episode nine trailer it looks like its gonna be pang v gifted again only this time literally none of his friends have his back
Doesn’t have an exit.
I just wanna run away.
It’s really startin’ to weigh on me.

“the gifted program is evil” - korn
hello! mostly-useless english major here! i may be broke, but i have something to say about the complete mistrust we all now have regarding any and all adults in the gifted/the gifted graduation series.
fun fact: in the united states, the outsiders by s.e. hinton is largely accepted by literary scholars to be the first (successful) example of modern young adult fiction. it was published in 1967. some argue that the catcher in the rye should have this title (though, unlike the outsiders, it was written with an adult audience in mind), but even that was published as recently as 1951. i have no concrete evidence of this except for my own accumulated knowledge, as someone with a vested interest in the subject, but even today, young adult fiction books are frequently banned worldwide for little other than representing young adult life in a realistic way.
why did it take so long for such a successful genre to emerge in an ancient a medium as literature? why is it still so controversial today? how does this relate to the gifted?
rebellion.
books were viewed for hundreds of years as a means of educating children, and disciplining them. you know how new technology is deemed “satanic” again and again? so were books! the outsiders may not be a perfect piece of literature, but it does very clearly take the perspective of adolescents, and specifically adolescents who have been let down by adults. it holds adults accountable, and by extension, holds anyone in a position of power accountable.
all this to say: adults vs. kids isn’t always just a fun, competitive atmosphere. it’s a real time means of threatening authority. it’s a metaphor for any usurping of the old by the new. i’ve seen a few posts (please someone send me links i can’t find them now of course but i’d like to give credit) mentioning the parallels between the gifted/the gifted graduation and the real life politics happening in thailand right now and i think they’re onto something.
pang’s desire to trust authority - almost a need - is highly realistic of most people in the face of untrustworthy of authority. rebelling sucks, political unrest isn’t fun for anyone - remember ohm’s qualm with pang? “this isn’t fun anymore.” and that’s understandable! he’s right! and we’re sitting here watching this show, frustrated that not only pang, but many of us started to trust supot again.
you know what? i was really worried when i watched the last episode that the show was veering off in a direction of submission, a direction of avoiding conflict, a truly idealistic direction of finding peace with all enemies, and i’m glad because they took the exact opposite path. the gifted graduation writers said “we haven’t broken their trust in the system enough. let’s make our stance even more clear.” this wasn’t a mistake. this was deliberate and it’s very relevant today.
i’m not saying this has never been done before, because i am not well-versed enough in thai culture or in drama shows to know - for all i know there are plenty of other current thai shows doing this same thing right now - but i do think it is worth appreciating the lengths the gifted and the gifted graduation has gone to for the purpose of showing that complete rebellion is, at times, necessary. pang’s idealism isn’t flawed because of his trust in his friends, because that is his hope. that’s our red herring, placed there by, of all people, supot. pang’s idealism is flawed because he still, despite everything, has always wanted peace with everyone, including the adults.
it’s worth thinking about the gifted as a real time rebellion, a real time call for people with differences of all sorts to work together towards a shared goal.
“even if we don’t agree, we can still walk together” - pang
so, I’m experimenting. idk what this is exactly xd but here, have it.
Hello again! Another set for my “The Gifted characters as Roman deities.”
I’ll be basically pairing them in two or three gifs, depending on the characters. I guess it’ll be like oppositions or things/characteristics/dynamics that go together.
Wave and Punn as opposites. More like, Minerva (Wave) had to take the lead from Summanus (Punn), as he was drowning himself in darkness. Because it’s expected from Summanus (Punn) to be somewhat of a leader, but while he turns to the darkness, Minerva (Wave) has to take the place. There is also a conflict in which Smmanus (Punn) tries to lure Minerva (Wave) to go down his path, but it doesn’t work as good.
Also, here is the first part.
And, this is the headcannon.
