Chapter IV preview:
Laura took a slow, deep breath and ran the back of her hand over her forehead. She stared down at Kaylee’s boots. Pressed her lips together.
“Yeah, well. You’ll have to find some other mortal wound to die from, because you won’t bleed out from your arm. I took care of that too well. Sorry.”
He didn’t say anything, but made a little noise that sounded like a huff. She glanced back up at him to find him not smiling, but his mouth seemed relaxed. The tension seemed to be lessened from his shoulders, somehow.
He said, “I’m not worried. I keep getting bit when I’m around you.”
She blinked. “Yeah. I guess that’s true.”
