Bugatti Atlantic Concept 2015
he 2015 Bugatti Atlantic Concept was a planned modern interpretation of the iconic Type 57 Atlantic, designed as a front-engined, V8-powered grand tourer, but its development was canceled due to the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal, preventing its planned debut at Pebble Beach. This luxurious coupe and roadster concept featured a carbon fiber chassis, upward-swinging doors, and elements from other VW Group brands, aiming to be a Veyron successor, but ultimately remained a secret prototype due to financial constraints and the scandal's fallout.
Aspects of the Concept: Inspiration: A direct homage to the rare 1930s Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. Engine: Planned to use a front-mounted, twin-turbo V8, a departure from the Veyron's mid-mounted W16. Chassis: A carbon fiber monocoque with a transaxle for better weight distribution. Design: Featured a distinctive chrome backbone, power-operated doors, and luxurious leather interior. Versions: A coupe and roadster were envisioned, potentially using Porsche Taycan technology. Fate: The project was scrapped around 2015-2016, just before the Chiron's launch, due to the financial impact of the Dieselgate scandal on its parent company, VW. Why It Matters: It represented Bugatti's effort to create a more accessible, yet still exclusive, grand tourer. Its cancellation left a gap before the Chiron, though its design themes influenced later Bugatti special projects like the La Voiture Noire, according to The Supercar Blog, and Auto.ru, and Top Gear.
