Years after the Hundred Year War, the Fire Nation is struggling to rebuild under the rule of Fire Lord Zuko. Yet in the remote mountains beyond the capital lies a forgotten chapter of Ozai’s reign—one that Zuko never knew existed.

Raika is the last surviving member of an ancient mountain bloodline known for a rare and feared form of firebending: black fire. Unlike ordinary flames, Raika’s fire burns almost without light, appearing as dark, violent flames that consume everything in their path. Her family guarded the technique for generations, refusing to allow it to become a weapon of the Fire Nation.

Ozai’s forces came for them anyway.

Her family was slaughtered.

Her home was destroyed.

And Raika was left with nothing but her family’s name, her black fire, and an hatred for the nation responsible for taking everything from her.

Years later, when Zuko becomes Fire Lord, Raika finally leaves the mountains and travels to the capital.

She isn’t there to forgive.

She’s there because the new Fire Lord has begun reopening records from Ozai’s regime—and Raika wants to know why her family was targeted in the first place.

But Zuko already knows her.

During the final years of the war, he repeatedly encountered a mysterious black-fire bender who sabotaged Fire Nation operations in the mountains. They fought more than once. She nearly killed him. He nearly captured her.

Neither knew the other’s identity.

Until now.

When Raika realizes the enemy she spent years fighting was Prince Zuko himself, whatever fragile possibility of cooperation disappears.

Zuko, however, refuses to let her family’s death remain buried beneath his father’s crimes. He decides to personally accompany Raika into the mountains to uncover the truth.

They never make it there.

A violent storm tears through the mountain pass, separating them from their escorts and leaving Raika and Zuko stranded deep in the wilderness.

Alone.

Lost.

And forced to rely on the person they hate most.

With no palace, soldiers, or titles between them, their hatred becomes impossible to hide—and so do the things neither expected to feel.

Raika begins to see the scarred boy beneath the crown, while Zuko begins to understand the grief beneath her fury. Every argument, every confrontation, and every moment of reluctant trust draws them closer to a line neither is willing to cross.

Because falling for Zuko means falling for the son of the man who destroyed her family.

And loving Raika means confronting the darkest legacy of his father’s reign.

The mountains may have trapped them together.

But when they finally find their way home, the real question will be whether they can return to being enemies.

This one's not too bad once you see where all the coins are.
