THALIA BELL // find me where the wild things are.
Open Starter: Girl's Night
Thalia finished fixing up her dorm. She stepped back and smiled at her work.
On the floor were sleeping bags, pillows, and fluffy blankets. A full snack bar was set up along the back wall. There was also an array of movies on DVD in multiple disk catalogs on her mantle just under the tv.
There was a knock at the door. Thalia grinned. "Come on in!" she shouted excitedly.

The Shadow Side
Tayen sat on her windowsill, her wings flitting open and closed slowly. The glass-like projections glowed silver and shimmered in the moonlight. Her black dress billowed in the small breeze.
A familiar bat landed next to the fairy. He smiled. Well, he came as close as a bat can to smiling. He looked up at the sky.
“You did a wonderful job, Tay,” he said. “The stars look lovely tonight.”
“Thanks, Wings,” she smiled back. “I tried.” She looked down at the empty gardens below. “What’s she up to?”
“She’s sleeping. She talked to Snow White’s daughter for three hours when she was supposed to be working. Her ex stopped by for a few minutes, but left soon after to do something. She didn’t freeze over anything today save for a tub of ice cream she ate with Snow White’s daughter to keep it from melting too much.”
“Yeah, that sounds like Lia,” Tayen giggled.
Wings shifted around. “When are you going to talk to her?”
“I don’t know if I can,” she said. Wings stretched a wing around her shoulders in a sort of hug. A long moment passed. “Thanks. You’re a good friend.”
“Anytime, Tay,” he said. He tilted his head to the side and twitched an ear. “I need to go. Be safe, okay?”
“No promises,” she whispered. She watched her friend fly off into the night.
Although it was her dominion and where she was most powerful, she hated being alone at night. With good reason.
The night was when the shadows came out to play.
A two-dimensional, clawed, black hand climbed up the wall behind her. It pulled itself onto the platform.
Tayen knew by now not to trust shadows in Auradon. The ones she could trust were serving as spies in Pixie Hollow. She felt the shadow come up behind her.
“What do you want?” she demanded.
“Nothing yet, Missstresssss,” the shadow hissed, the characteristic snake-like slur extending the “s” noises.
“And you shall have nothing,” she said. She didn’t turn to look at it. “Leave me.”
The shadow slid along until was next to her.
“You, better than anyone,” it hissed, “know that sssshadowsss are never alone.”
Another hand dug into the wood. Then another. And another. And another.
Tayen stood. She was just out of reach of the phantoms.
“You can only hurt me if I allow it,” she said.
“Physssically,” one replied.
“But mentally,” another chimed in.
“You are defensselesss,” finished a third.
The fairy queen kicked off and hovered away from the window. Her wings fluttered erratically, like a hummingbird’s, and the silver glow encased her whole form. She glared at them.
“You cannot ssstop usssss,” the shadows called in unison. “My name issss Legion, for we are many.”
The shadows merged into one, forming a monster blacker than black. It stood on the edge of the windowsill, now with substance.
Tayen’s eyes widened with fear. “No.”
“Yesssss,” they growled.
Then it leaped.
The shadow creature surrounded her in a ball of black, extinguishing her glow.
You are nothing.
You’re a villain. A parasite.
You can’t be forgiven.
They won’t kill you.
You’ll be locked up.
Made to suffer for your sins.
Your sister will hate you forever.
You’re worthless, Tayen Bell.
“No,” Tayen whimpered, clutching her hair in her fists. “No.” She pulled her hair hard. “No!”
“NO!”
A scream that would put banshees to shame ripped from her throat, carrying across four voices. The scream echoed across the campus.
The shadow ball dissipated. Tayen glowed brighter than she ever had before.
When she finished screaming, she peeled her eyes open.
A light came on. Then two. Then three.
Tayen’s eyes closed, and she fell to the ground. Hard.

A scream cut through the night. Thalia fell out of bed. She stood in a flurry of hair, blankets, and frost. She listened close to the sound.
Four voices. There were four parts to that scream.
“Tayen,” Thalia breathed.
She ran down the hall. Fairy Godmother stood in the dorm foyer trying to calm students.
“Please, remain calm,” she yelled.
“That scream was so weird!”
“Something fell out of the sky!”
“Was it silver?” Thalia asked. Everyone turned to look at her. “Answer me!”
“Yeah,” someone answered. “But-”
“Where?” she growled. No one spoke. “I said WHERE? ” Her voice multiplied to four. Everyone jumped. “I swear if no one helps me I’m freezing all of your doors shut.”
“This way!” a girl yelled. She led the group to an area of bushes.
A small white girl in black clothes lay on the ground.
“Oh my god.”
“Is she okay?”
“Is that a fairy?”
“Everyone move!” Thalia shouted. She quickly morphed into fairy form and flew over to her sister. She shook her shoulders violently.
“Tayen!” she yelled. “Tayen! Tayen, wake up!” Her sister’s wings began to go out. “No. No, no, no, no, no! I need dust!”
Another fairy changed forms and grabbed her bag of pixie dust from her pocket. She sprinkled dust over Tayen.
“Please work,” Thalia whispered, holding her sister’s hand.
Fairy Godmother shook Thalia awake. The smaller fairy jolted, a ball of frost flying toward the ceiling. The fabric of the chair turned to ice as her palms touched it.
“Dear, you need to go to your dorm,” Fairy Godmother said. “You’re missing classes, you aren’t sleeping well. I know this is hard but…. but you can’t live in here.”
“I’m not leaving until she wakes up,” Thalia replied firmly. “My friends are bringing me my homework and food. I’ll be fine.”
Fairy Godmother smiled sadly. “Thalia…” She sat in the chair next to her. “It’s been a week. It’s up to her now. She’ll wake up when she chooses.”
Thalia kept her eyes on Tayen as Fairy Godmother left. Her sister was hooked up to all sorts of machines. Fairy Godmother had forced her into human form so she could be monitored.
Thalia had bags under her eyes so big she could go shopping with them. Her skin was sickly pale and her hair was matted from lack of proper care. The sparkle she normally had in her eyes was nowhere to be found.
The fairy girl from before popped in. “How is she?”
“In a coma,” Thalia said flatly, “just like she has been for a week.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t do much except give her dust,” she said. “I wish I could help.” Then she left.
Thalia kept her eyes on her big sister. “I’m not leaving you,” she whispered. “Not again.”
“Never again.”

Thalia sat in her chair in the Chemistry room, hiding behind a curtain of hair. She was on the deep end of an episode and the graded test in front of her didn't help at all. A large red D was circled in the top right corner.
She tuned out Mr. Delay, choosing instead to go over in her mind the failures she's had in the past two weeks. All caused by her-
The stool next to her squeaked as somebody sat down on it. Thalia jumped about a foot in the air at the sound. She looked up at the newcomer.
"Oh, hey," she said. "You're Jessie, right?"
Open Starter - Thoughts
Thalia stretched, standing from where she had sat under the large willow tree her aunt Rosetta had planted four springs ago. She ruffled her platinum hair. Her sketchbook sat closed next to her foot. She leaned down to pick it up.
She hadn’t been feeling 100% like herself through the day. She didn’t really notice until classes started. She wasn’t as involved as she usually was. The topics just seemed... useless. And boring. Her brain tuned out everything the teachers had said.
Well, mostly everything. She was paying attention when Mr. Delay reprimanded her for not paying attention.
By now she knew partially what was going on when she was like that. Elixa, one of the healing fairies in Pixie Hollow, had looked her over when she was last there for a visit. She had told Thalia is was a kind of Clumsy illness that she couldn’t treat. Thalia refused to go to a Clumsy doctor... They’re scary.
She put her headphones in and tuned out reality, starting on her way back to her dorm. She just wanted to be alone for a few minutes... or hours... maybe even a day? Yeah, a day would be nice.
Not like anyone would notice, anyways. Her mind told her nobody cared enough to notice when she was gone or not acting like herself. But was it true? How would she know?
She locked the door when she got to her room. She didn’t have a roommate to worry about (thank Clarion for that), so she locked the door every time she went to her room. She threw her sketchbook onto her bed, ripping out her earbuds in the process. She was too lazy to put them back in. Her mind raced with negative things she didn’t want to believe.
Did they all secretly hate her? Were they just being nice to be polite? What did they say when she wasn’t around?
She sunk to the floor, leaning her head on the door. She felt numb. Just... nothingness. It made her sick. How could she just be numb? How could she not be feeling anything? At all? Was she broken?
A knock drew her attention.
She stood and pulled the door open. The face on the other side surprised her.
Backstory - Closet Talk (Rani/Thalia)
( @askdescendantcarlos @askevie y'all are definitely encouraged to input Carlos and Evie's comments on this) Five minutes ago, Thalia was minding her own business. Five minutes ago, she was paying no attention to anything around her. Then suddenly there was a bag over her head and her friends were practically dragging her somewhere. "Where are you guys taking me?" Thalia asked fearfully. No answer. "I swear to Clarion when I get this stupid bag off my head I'm coating your beds in frost while you're sleeping." The only response to this threat was a chorus of quiet giggles. "Finally, you've got her!" a strange voice said. "We're tired of holding this door closed. The lock's busted." "Get her in there before she figures out what's going on!" another voice said. Then Thalia was spun around, shoved through a door, and the bag was ripped off her. She was in an unusually spacious broom closet. It didn't take her long to notice she wasn't alone. Her eyes locked on the other blonde girl sitting on the ground in front of her. The blonde girl she hadn't seen or talked to or thought about in four years. The blonde girl she hated for abandoning her. Time stopped as she attempted to process. "Rani?" she croaked out. Then she turned around and tried to push back through the door. She heard eight pairs of feet and voices hurrying to the door to keep it closed. "Let me out!" Thalia demanded. "Let me out!"

Thalia's lips crept up into a grin. "Perfect."
She picked up a black leather jacket, blue crop top, and pair of skinny jeans. "I think this looks amazing, don't you two? I would look wicked in this."
