As for ocs, lets talk about Deryth and Thalia since i’ve been working with them as of late.

If you don’t know them and/or are new to this blog, Deryth Mahariel and Thalia Tabris are my two Grey Wardens. They are both the Heroes of Ferelden, alongside Connor Hawke (tho he’s a long story.) 

Deryth is a widowed single mom who carried her child to term and gave birth while saving Ferelden. Her fiance was Tamlen, and when he died, she was torn apart. She is also best friends with Merrill, despite their personalities contrasting so much. (Deryth’s sarcastic, rude, and short tempered while Merrill is an actual angel.) Some facts about Deryth:

Her middle name is Arathala

She prefers gold over silver

She’s allergic to blueberries and will throw up if she eats them

She is 5′1″ and her bra size is 34A 

Despite what she might say, she cares very deeply about the people close to her and would do just about anything to keep them safe

She named her daughter Liahris after her childhood imaginary friend 

Her favorite animals are cats

She has a halla named Nerris, who she sometimes believes is a reincarnation of her mother, who died when Deryth was seven

She knows origami 

She’s biromantic and has dated more girls than boys

As for Thalia, she grew up in Denerim’s alienage. She was born a boy, but realized she was a girl around the age of 23. After winning the Arl’s favor, she requested to travel to the Circle of Magi and have them perform a spell to change her body to what she wanted it to be. He agreed, though he brought the mage to Denerim to be safe. She’s ridiculously friendly and charming, often choosing to be peaceful and diplomatic. Some facts about Thalia:

       “Honestly, the worst part of the Fifth Blight for me was when I left the alienage. It was so hard leaving everyone behind.” She mutters and crosses her legs. 

        “Father had arranged a marriage with some lad from one of the other alienages. Starkhaven’s? I can’t remember. I can’t even remember his name.” Taking in a deep breath, she swallows hard as she recalls the events of that day. “I, of course, wanted nothing to do with the marriage. The lad was fine and all, I simply didn’t want to wed a man I had just met.”

        “Shianni had been so excited about the wedding, so giddy about getting me in a white gown and seeing me wed off to some handsome man. Soris and I had come to meet with my father about the wedding when Duncan arrived at the alienage with Deryth and Connor. Said they were looking for recruits for the Wardens. Honestly, I wanted to go with them then and there, if it meant getting out of this arranged marriage.

       “Not long after, some shemlen nobleman’s son and his friends barged into the alienage, drunk of their arses and cat calling the elven women. Shianni whacked one of them over the head with a bottle, and they in turn nabbed several of us, myself included. They knocked me out cold, seeing I was a warrior and could easily fight back.” She grumbled something under her breath. “Filthy shemlen scum.”

      “When I came to, we were locked up in the shemlen’s home. They killed one of the girls who tried to run. Dragged Shianni back into a room by her hair, saying they’d get to us eventually. I grabbed a sword off of one of the guards and fought my way through. I arrived just in time to stop them from raping Shianni.”

        “I swear, if you two don’t start quieting down, I’ll cut you.” 

        “Deryth, I’ve no clue what you’re talking about.”

        “You and Alistair have been going at it like rabbits ever since we got to Weisshaupt. Do me a personal favor and pipe down before it wakes up the baby.”

        “You can hear us?! Oh Maker, I’m so sorry.”

        “Listen, I get it, you two want a kid. But you know there’s plenty of orphaned kids from the Blight. Why don’t you just look there instead of waking me up every night?”

        “We-we don’t do that every night-”

        “Yes, you do.”

        “Deryth, I do not care for you.”

17. A description of your OC’s family by a future historian      (I just kinda wrote her general description)

       Tabris was born and raised in Denerim’s alienage as the only child of Cyrion and Adaida Tabris. She was a very social child, a trait which followed her well into adulthood. Despite what many common folk believe, she joined the Wardens to escape legalities after killing the human man who attempted to rape her close friend. She was present at the Ostagar massacre, witnessing the deaths of hundreds of Grey Wardens and members of King Cailan’s army. 

       She, along with Deryth Mahariel, a Dalish elf, and Connor Hawke, an Antivan mage, embarked on the year long journey to prevent the Fifth Blight from ravaging Ferelden’s countryside. Over the course of the year, she became romantically involved with Alistair Theirin, half brother of King Cailan and one of the only other surviving Wardens. The two wed three years after the Blight, and adopted several Elven children after the disbandment of the Inquisition. 

       Her involvement in the Fifth Blight and the Inquisition have helped cement her place in history, as well as bring to light the importance of Elves in Thedosian history.

doing random facts for my characters is fun so here’s some for thalia!

she can start up a conversation with literally anyone

thalia is like 90% chill, 5% happiness, and 5% whoop ass

she’s a  sword and shield warrior, which surprises a lot of people upon first meeting her

since she wears long sleeved armor like 24/7, no one can see how muscly her arms and legs are

she has more muscles than alistair

initially, she thought she was asexual and thought so for at least 10 years

she has become the babysitter of the grey wardens

she is so maternal omfg

for the first 10 years of lia’s (deryth’s baby) life, thalia acted as a father figure

she is learning to become a painter, but so far isn’t very good at it. she’s taken to abstract art.

for a while she also thought she was a lesbian, but when she dated a girl in the alienage, she decided she wasn’t. the two maintained a friendship afterwards

she would make up elaborate and exciting stories for the children in the alienage and would tell them by a bonfire at night. she would use crazy hand gestures and wild expressions to make the kids laugh. the adults thought they were funny, too

she is the best warden to go to with problems. she will listen and offer solutions to the problem, and then take you out to do something disctracting and get a smile on your face

    This is Warden-Commander Mahariel. We’ve rounded up the remaining Wardens and are testing for any further signs of brainwashing. So far, it seems like your work in the Fade has cleared most of it away. Alistair reported everything to me and one other Warden, that being his wife. No one else knows what you did. 

     I apologize on behalf of the Wardens. We did not expect that Corypheus would strike us like this, nor that we would submit so easily. I.. I am enraged I even believed it. 

     I won’t waste anymore of your time. I simply wished to thank you for sparing the Wardens. We’ve enough trouble as is.

    I apologize for Deryth’s rudeness. She hasn’t been in the best of places since the attack on Adamant fortress. You see, that tragedy of a fight took place on the ten year anniversary of the day her fiance died. He left her behind to save the world, and bear a child on top of it all. As you can tell, she is in a hard time in her life right now. 

    Commander Theirin sends his regards. He told me all you did at Adamant, and I must thank you with all my heart for returning my dear husband to me alive. We have had too many scares, and I was not certain I could handle another one. 

    I wish you fortune in the days to come. Deryth and I will be there to assist you in any way you need. Rather nice to have the Heroes of Ferelden on your side, yes?

Thank you for your swift and efficient reaction to the events at Adamant Fortress. It was... rather daunting, to see the Wardens in such a state, and it is comforting to know that measures are already being taken to ensure those who remain are sound of mind after Corypheus’ corruption. I am glad you heard about what happened in the Fade (although also grateful that word has not spread of that particular misadventure. We... lost a great deal there. A great person. Gained some things, to be certain, but everything comes at a cost. Not that I need to tell you that, of course). 

Although I do not expect or demand an apology, I accept it nonetheless. No one knew that Corypheus was able to send out a false Calling like that. It is something beyond all of our areas of expertise; not something we could have ever safely assumed. Please do not blame yourself - if I was in your situation, I would have probably felt the same fear and dread.

I wish you and the Wardens the best for the future. With the way things are going, I have no doubt that your influence and skill will be sorely needed.

Please - no need for apology. We have all been shaken to the core by Adamant, although the Wardens more than anyone. It grieves me to hear of her personal losses, and the timing of the tragedy that befell so many of your comrades in arms at the hands of Corypheus. I send you my best wishes, for what they are worth. Anything you need to help you rebuild and ensure stability within your ranks, you have only to ask for it.

Ah, Alistair! I am glad he made it back to you unharmed. He was... in a bad place after Adamant, although I can hardly blame him. There was a lot to confront there, but at the same time, there was a fire in his eyes when we stepped out of the Fade. I have absolute faith in his (and your) ability to restore the Wardens to their former glory. It brings me joy to hear that you have been reunited; I am glad I did not add to the rather immense list of burdens that already decorates your shoulders, Hero of Ferelden.

Thank you for your kind words - and yes, I do believe that I would rather fight with you and Warden-Commander Mahariel, than against you! I will keep in mind your offer for assistance, especially as the final confrontation draws ever nearer. I have no doubt your guidance and experience will be invaluable.

Backstory/ Ongoing story:

Raised in Denerim’s alienage, Thalia was an only child. Her parents only wanted the one child, and with all of her cousins in the alienage, they had plenty of children to take care of. Thalia was very social in the alienage, visiting everyone at least once a week to check on them and talk. Very few in the alienage disliked her, and if they did, it was because of her level of happiness. Despite living in the worst possible part of Denerim, she still had a smile on her face every day. It irritated several families to no end, but they never did anything about it.

Thalia was very close with her cousins Shianni and Soris. The trio were often seen with each other, and it was quite to see only one of them without the other two appearing soon after. They would play together as children, and often invited the other kids to play with them. Thalia had few people she disliked, and even if she did, she never was rude to them. She was an obedient child, and hated getting in trouble more than anything.

Oftentimes she would get in trouble as a child for talking to the shemlen guards of the alienage, even though they themselves never seemed to mind. Some of the guards even took a liking to her, occasionally sneaking her small treats and trinkets, but never openly acted on it for fear of getting in trouble with their bosses.

When she was 36, her father finally arranged a marriage for her with an elf from another alienage. Thalia was to move back with him after the wedding was over. However, she did not want to get married, and politely told her fiance that. He was hurt, and tried to make the ordeal sound more appealing to her, but she was not having any of it.

A shemlen nobleman’s son interrupted the wedding ceremony and captured Thalia, Shianni, and a few of the other elven girls, taking them back to his estate with plans of molesting and raping them. One of her friends was murdered. Thalia fought her way through the estate, killing the shemlen before he could rape Shianni. Her fiance was also killed in the midst of everything. Soris broke in and helped them escape.

When they came back to the alienage, a Grey Warden named Duncan was there along with two other recruits, Deryth Mahariel and Connor Amell, and he said he was there looking for recruits. Thalia made the decision to leave to ensure that the alienage would be safe after the death of the nobleman’s son.

When the group reached Ostagar, the trio quickly took to defending each other, deciding to stick together in everything to ensure each other’s survival. Thalia was also quick to befriend Alistair, a Warden who had helped them in their Joining. When Loghain betrayed King Cailan and the group was left in the Korcari Wilds, Thalia swore revenge, vowing that he would not get away with taking all the innocent lives he had.

Over the course of their adventure, Thalia and Alistair grew quite close, even falling in love after a near death experience in the Deep Roads. She also grew close with Deryth and Connor, especially the angry elven woman. She became a source of comfort for the mourning Deryth, offering her comfort and advice when she could. They bonded over stories of their pasts.

On her long journey, she and the group eventually come across Clan Lavellan: more specifically, the young Lysandre Lavellan. The child took an immediate loving to Connor and Deryth, and begged to come with them. The clan’s Keeper seemed reluctant at first, but after Deryth and Connor talked to her, she agreed and Lysandre set off with them on their adventure.

When the time came for the Landsmeet, Connor revealed his plan to his fellow Wardens and Leliana, telling them that he planned on sacrificing himself to defeat the Archdemon. However, he would fake his death and live on as Connor Hawke, which was his real name. The group reluctantly agreed to help him with his plan, though there were many tears shed.

Connor did as he said he would, leaving his friends behind after slaying the Archdemon. Alistair and Thalia married three years after the end of the Blight. She rarely saw the rest of her party for the next ten years, what with her being constantly on the move with the Wardens.

Ten years later, she and the Wardens are called to the Inquisition, and she meets up with a few familiar faces and is yet again tasked with saving the world.
