Barred Antshrike
Thamnophilus doliatus
Thamnophilus translates to shrub lover, while doliatus seems to mean barred.
Family: Thamnophilidae (Antbird)
Fun Fact: These birds will follow around trails of army ants (yes sometimes army ants travel by the thousands traversing the rainforest) and they will eat insects and small lizards trying to escape the ants' path.
Habitat: Rainforests of Cental & northern South America.
Ecosystem Role: They help keep insects and small reptiles in check, while providing food for bigger predators like snakes and birds of prey.
Conservation Status: Least Concern
