5. three people you wish you could meet?
Honestly, there have been a couple of people I’ve admired who I met before, and in general I think the old adage is true: never meet your heroes. Inevitably, they are going to be disappointing compared to what you envision in your mind.
14. piece of media that left a lasting impact on you?
That’s a hard one too. I’ll categorize:
Music: Tori Amos, Boys for Pele - probably the first thing I ever listened to where I understood how an entire album could be a single piece of art. Pianos beat guitars; plus, harpsichords are a thing
Books: Other Voices, Other Rooms by Truman Capote. Another first - the first time I realized a novel could be strange and fever-dreamish and still work. (It’s also notable as one of my first encounters with queer literature and was studied at a Catholic school. My school did not shy away from literature lol)
TV: Six Feet Under forever and forever and forever. The storytelling. The family. The angst. The joy. The sorrow. The beautiful complication. Life and death.
Film: Ghost in the Shell. Introduced to me by an acquaintance who was wearing a GITS tshirt. It has all the things I love in a film: amazing cinematography (animation in this case), philosophical underpinnings, interesting characters, and science fiction.
Games: I think you know the answer to this 😆
