(1) With concrit, I think the question is not about the advice itself, but the point at which it's given. For me at least, I spend a long time writing fics, taking advice along the way, and when I post something, it's because I think it's finished. And I love to get comments, either 'I liked this' or 'there were things about this I didn't like', but if a reader says, 'I think you should change this,' well, that's no use to me, because I'm beyond the point where I'm going to rewrite anything.
(2) Other writers may see posting work as a step in a process, and rewrite according to the critique that they get, and I see some doing just that, using readers' comments like a beta reader. It seems that like everything else in fandom, there's no single interpretation of what posting a fic means. So the divide may be as much about what writers think they're doing as about being willing to accept criticism.
That’s an excellent point, and it really highlights some of the differences in perspective among writers.
I tend to write as I post, but I consider what I’ve posted to be “done”. I’ll fix typos and things, but I’m not planning to go back revise a plot point unless it actually bothers me. That said, I love it when readers try to guess what’s coming next because that often gives me ideas of which direction I want to go in. :)
lavender of rose?
rose!
make me choose between ______ or _______?
🔥 MapleStory and Overwatch maybe?
For the first: Playing the game doing nothing but grinding to level up is Bad. i had a friend who did that and it’s like, how don’t you get bored? Quests! Checking out the whole Maple World! COme on! Don’t just go to the most crowded levelling spot! God.
For the second: Fuck, I dunno. The amount of new voice lines for Junkenstein’s Revenge is awesome but I wish they spent that much time or attention on characters who don’t already feel like they’ve been constantly in focus?
