Eddie adopting a cat for Buck.
She’s so very small, her black tufts of fur sticking up in odd places, and with one missing back paw, her trot is more of an awkward stumble.
Eddie stares at her through the glass in her little habitat. “Is this one old enough to get adopted?” he asks one of the animal shelter volunteers.
“Oh yeah, Po’s ready to go to her forever home. She’s very tiny for her age, is all.” the volunteer tells him, excited by the prospect of a new start for the little creature.
Eddie lets Po ride in the front seat with him, on their way to Buck’s. He hopes he’s made the right choice, doing this. Last night when he came to pick Christopher up, after finishing his shift, he couldn’t help but notice the melancholy in the way Buck gently deposited Christopher’s sleeping body into his arms.
It would be a while still before Buck’s leg was completely healed and he was cleared for active duty. Eddie can tell Buck is lonely at the end of the day, during the nights, when he’s home all by himself, cooped up in his loft. He really hopes Po will help keep him company.
He uses his copy of Buck’s keys to open the door, trying his best to be sneaky, with the little ball of fur tucked into the inner pocket of his jacket. Buck and Christopher are downstairs in the kitchen area playing I Spy while Buck mixes up some mac and cheese on the stove, so they end up spotting him fairly quickly, much to Eddie’s disappointment.
Before he can say anything, Po’s cherubic fuzzy head peaks out, and she lets out a loud and exuberant “MEOW!”
