According to the legends, the security personnel including Bhikkuni Sangathiththa Thera were resting at Tantirimale for one night while they were on their way to bring the Sri Maha Bodhi to Anuradhapura.
The head of the village was Tivakka Bamunugama. He accompanied his followers to the valley of Malwathu Oya and took the Sri Maha Bodhi in procession.
