I think that Superman and Lois have a chance to finally write a good Jonathan story with how they've set him up in this season but that I think a lot of what could work is just oversights by the writers and not actually foreshadowing
Based off of the most recent comic Jon stuff (specifically the beginning of son of kal el) they could explore how his self-sacrificing nature combined with new superpowers could mess him up
We saw what could be the beginning of this in episode 4 where Jon has to go to the fire because Jordan lost confidence in himself and Clark was distracted/didn't hear it (I think?) This is like in the comics where Jon is like somewhat forced into the superman title before he feels ready with Clark going off world and his conversation with Damian about how he needs to be superman.
Jon's in a very easy position to overwork himself because he's got school, the firehouse, Britt and Dunn's and superheroing which he may feel obligated to to fulfil his commitments to, especially since it seems like Clark is going to have legitimate issues from the new heart and Jordan isn't in the right headspace to superhero at the moment. This would be like what happens in son of kal el after he gets supercharged with the solar beam and works himself into the ground
The family medical issues (Clark's heart, Jordan's returning mental health issues/anxiety and Lois's cancer) could also further why he feels the need to take on too much because he sees his issues as less than theirs. This, combined with the grief over sam's death, would also distract the family and offer an explanation to why they don't notice anything's wrong
To be fair tho, they have a bad track record of noticing Jon's problems anyway (see almost the entirety of the show)
If the writers were building to this it would excuse some of the bad writing decision in the recent episodes such as Clark saying that he had managed to completely fix his relationship to Jon. The main thing it would fix, though, is the cheapness of Jon's sudden mastery of all the kryptionian powers in like a 4 minute time span.
Much of Jordan's story revolved around trying to get to the point where he could be a superhero, learning to control his powers and how to do saves + convincing his parents to allow him to and controlling his own ego.
Thus, Jon being able to skip all of this is a disservice to both his and Jordan's characters in a massive way. For Jordan, once he works out how to be a good superhero, I do think that will be the satisfactory conclusion to his narrative.
I think (am hoping) that Jon's narrative is going to conclude with him being able to find a balance between being a hero and looking after himself because he has consistently put others above himself (sometimes for better, moving to Smallville for Jordan, but a lot of the time for the worse, getting his arm broken to protect Cutter and taking the blame for Candice) because most of the time these sacrifices either immediately backfire on him or lead to him having self destructive behaviour due to pent up emotions (alcohol, yelling, putting himself in dangerous situations like John Henry's RV and taking space drugs)
So yeah, I hope Jon's story line is about learning to balance other people's needs with his own and not just about suddenly being great at everything and having all of his interesting problems reduced to nothing because the writers forgot how to write. Fingers crossed
