Is alchemy a popular thing among witches? If so, what do they prefer to research?
If by “alchemy” you mean the historic practice of attempting to turn iron or lead into gold and similar things that would cheat science, not at all. Witchcraft doesn’t seek to do the physically impossible, but instead to sway things towards a particular intent or outcome.

It is dense and varied so make sure to bring snacks and a bottle of water with you if you want to explore them.
If you want a more modern exploration of “alchemy” I’d suggest your character be more science witch or tech witch aimed and that they’re in a field that allows them to experiment manipulating matter. Physics, biology, chemistry, and the like all have avenues in which your witch can flex their matter manipulative abilities.
