Today we celebrated Titus. Brian and I walked one more Willmer through saying goodbye to elementary school and hello to middle school. Titus revels in maturing. He approaches each new benchmark in life with perspective and goals in mind. I love this about my son. He is introspective and aware. I love how he doesn’t miss moments. The principal mentioned in his promotion speech, if the students began and ended their K-5th grade school years at OKA elementary, they have spent over 1,000 days walking the school hallways/playgrounds. Titus has been to 3 different elementary schools. His sense of belonging or familiarity aren’t attached to a particular building. He’s learned to make attachments to people & moments, to be adaptable through the process of change. We are home. He ended his kindergarten year being awarded the “Best Friend Maker” and ended his elementary years being awarded “Best All Around Student.” He also got an award for a 4.0 GPA, which he worked REALLY hard for. Upon recovering his certificate on stage, his dad & I waved at him from the back, and he welled up because he cries tears of appreciation and gratitude beautifully. Be still my heart ♥️. ...Then I made his dad be like all the other parents & go to the center isle to take a photo of him. We NEVER do this, ever. These kind of moments we tend to take pictures in our hearts 😊. We’ve already had to walk our children through not feeling loved because we are the only parents not joining the swarms of parents photographing the moment (in our defense, what am I going to do with a photo with 12 other people’s kids in it?!?...Peeps, more often than not, let’s take one in our hearts and then take a photo somewhere pretty, afterwards). However, going against my own advice, I thought this one time, Brian could capture our boy in all his glory. At the moment, Brian and several other eager parents were snapping photos, the principal had to make an announcement for all the parents in the isle to move or return to their seats b/c they were getting in the way of students coming down the isle to receive their awards 😂. I laughed so hard at Brian’s embarrassment. #thatdad So proud Titus! #titusischill (at Huntington Beach, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/By8K0F_BEki/?igshid=jzjt0vr7ysv5
