I'm autistic right. And I live in a small town, so basically everyone knows nothing about mental health and are kind of stuck in old ways of thinking.

But at the same time I go to school in a big city where mental health and queerness and all that stuff is taken seriously.

This causes a very funny thing for my brain.

One of my favorite jokes is oh haha I can't do something cuz disability, when I make this joke in the city people go "oh don't say that about yourself" and I have to explain no actually I'm disabled it's something I actually struggle with I'm just being funny.

And when I make the same joke in town people laugh cuz haha, and I have to be like no I'm not joking. And then they get uncomfortable it's so funny to me

So all my life I have lived in a city (population roughly 347,000) but I just moved into a small town (population roughly 500 and that's rounding up) here are some things that are very different for me as a city kid

People are nicer. Almost everyone knows each other, maybe not well but you know enough to wave or say hi at the store.

There are only like 5 buildings on main Street, the town hall, post office, library, the convenience store (the only shop in town) the museum.

There is a lot of churches

There's not very many sidewalks or even paved roads.

There is nothing to do

No matter where you are in the town you can hear the train

Someone moving is a big deal and everyone hears about it quickly

The ladys at the dinner learn your order

Funny things I have seen so far

A sidewalk on the wrong side of the road

A kid on a bike run face first into a tree because he was yelling at I think his brother who was in a car

Bad graffiti, like ok as I have said I am a city kid and I have always loved graffiti I have not tagged or anything but I know about it. And all the graffiti in town is like "name was here" "I hate name" "I hate myself" and I'm like... Bro. You just spray painted on the abandoned building and that's what you put????
